My Attendance At a Trade Show and Getting Offline Clients

I posted to a number of forums asking for help with my flyer before a trade show. So I thought this would be the most helpful way of updating you on what happened if you care to know. To everyone who posted their thoughts, thanks. It was all very helpful. I changed my flyer based on many of your suggestions.

The first thing that was really embarrassing was that when I ran out with the flyer and went to the venue, nobody was there. The event was THE NEXT DAY. All of that hustle was for naught, but I was glad to get the help ahead of time.

The event was to help small businesses in our region to get procurement contracts from the Government. So I was not interested in that. I was interested in meeting Small Businesses. The event was $40 and I met some good people but probably not enough to justify the cost. The people at my lunch table were only mildly interested.

But at the lunch there was a heavy-hitter web designer there who said that he has problems finding good partners in our area. So I was able to meet him and get his business card.

I also met up with the representatives from the local SCORE office. That was very fruitful as they were interested in providing small business counseling to me if I would do some workshops with them on Google Maps and Places. Well shucky ducky....of course I would be willing. I will do them one better and offer to do some webinars too. We will see where that goes.

Professors don't necessarily make good salesmen, but my wife's grandmother says that hard times will make a monkey eat red pepper. So I decided what the heck..I went right up to the event coordinator (The Chamber hosted the event) and said, "who does your marketing webinars?" She said, webinars? I don't think anybody does. I said, I will be happy to do them for you. She seemed very interested in this.

On the way home, I stopped at the battery shop who I had researched before and told him that he was good on most of his map listings but not on all of them. We talked about fixing them. I even sat at his pc and we went through things. I did not close him, but I didn't walk in with the intention of closing him.
But we agreed to talk again.

So today's task is to follow up with SCORE, follow up with the Chamber and follow up with the Heavy Hitter. My goal will be to land a live webinar or series of webinars and maybe even a seminar too. The services I will be looking to market are;

1.) Google Maps Listing
2.) Internet Marketing Webinar Series (10)

If they are willing to host the venue, I am thinking I will do some live seminars. Especially SCORE.

There was one more outfit there which was a college which holds the small biz incubator. I am thinking of calling them to offer them a webinar for their peeps too. It cannot hurt.

I am very open to your suggestions as I build this client base. One thing that I know about myself is that I am alot more confident asking for the sale on a webinar/seminar than in person. So I may need to try to maximize that.

The problem is getting people on the calls. I am trying a Blog Talk Radio show ( and a daily live Q and A webinar. Both are 15 minutes and if I can get people on them I think I can increase my chances of closing.

Feel free to share your thoughts.

PS...I didn't even get a chance to use the flyer.

    Hi from Kingston...well, Ottawa

    Hi, Charles.

It's good to see you pounding away at the offline stuff. You seem to be making inroads since we "nearly" met in Kingston 2 years ago.
