Medicus Junior Golfer Wins Divot Derby and Player of the Year Honors

Congratulations to Medicus Junior Development Player Brock Ochsenreiter (age 10) who not only won the 51st annual Divot Derby Golf Championship in Pensacola Florida but was also named Player of the Year for his age group of 10-11 year olds.

The Divot Derby was a 2 day nine holes per day event which included 40 players in Brock’s age group. Following the first round Brock was tied for the lead with a 40.

After tying on the first opening holes Brock began to take control of the match as he posted 2 birdies and 4 pars to take a two stroke lead with a two-under par score through the first six holes. This is when adversity entered into the equation as on hole 7 Brock posted a triple bogey and fell one stroke back.

We continually stress to all our junior golfers that when a bad swing or bad score is posted, to never ever throw in the towel. We stress to stay in the present and worry about only that swing which is happening right then. Brock did precisely that as he proceeded to tie the match on hole 8 and won the championship on hole nine with a birdie to finish with a final score of 76.

At the awards banquet Brock was presented not only his tournament championship trophy but got another surprise. Title Sponsor Bubba Watson presented Brock with another trophy for being player of the year in his age group for Northwest Florida.
