Brett Ochsenreiter fired a 69 to narrowly miss low medalist honors and three other Vikings shot 80 or below to help Fort Walton Beach edge Catholic to claim this year's Miracle Strip Invitational championship on the Fort Walton Beach Pines course on Thursday.

"This is a good tournament and a great field, to win at 292 really sends a message that this is a regional championship team if they can keep it together and build on this," Fort Walton Beach coach John Lavin said. Fort Walton Beach's team score of 292 was seven shots better than second place. "With the field that (Choctaw coach Bill) Martin puts together, this is one of the class tournaments of the year and it's a big honor to win it," Lavin said.
Niceville's Avery Helms took home low medalist honors with a 68.

Despite entering Thursday's invitational having struggled on past events at the Pines, Ochsenreiter helped pace Fort Walton Beach thanks in large part to his improved short game.

"(The course) was in great condition, I've never seen the greens run as well as they did today," Ochsenreiter said. "I've never putted good out there, but today I actually putted good. The greens were perfect.

"Our team played great," Ochsenreiter added. "I'm proud to be a part of it."
