Staying Calm and Still Making Sales in 2009
2009 doesn't look like a walk in the park for business owners. All you hear about is the credit crisis, stock market crashing, banks loosing our money and loaning from the government, housing meltdown left and right, is there any good news out there?
Sure it sounds cheesy, but why don't we look at the positive for a minute. We're not under martial law so people can still roam the streets and go shopping, prices are slowly going down and the people still need you. No matter what you sell, someone is still going to need it and all you have to do is play the cards right.
You can start the positive path by also giving off this good energy to the people around you. Makes sure your sales team is happy, because they are the front liners of your business and if they are happy, your customers are happy. It's very easy to be overwhelmed by the negative being spread around like a flu virus, and it is human nature to focus on the bad more than the good, but change this. Stop running to the TV and watching everything they ave to say. Focus on how you can do your best.
Now use all this positive energy and transfer it to your customers, and I don't mean by magical hand waving means. Your customers have problems and they need solutions. You have to be the person t provide them with it. Depending on what you do and what you sell, you need to make it easier for your customers to buy your products. Discounts, installments, free gifts, coupons, whatever it takes to make them happy. Check out what your competition is doing and do better.
Plan B. You know when you started the business you had a Plan B, and that should be money saved up. This is the best time to make good use of it. You can use it to keep business moving smoothly without having to fire people and then use that in turn to gain good feedback from people, your store is that store that is NOT firing!
You could also use it to cover more advertising. You may be thinking, is this the best time to advertise? Well, if other are not doing it, then you have a head start, if you have discounts and new offers, get that message out there and get people into your store. If you can afford, have a free show or festival or party, sell some items on the side, get a local band to play and gain peoples thanks.
Keep in mind you're not the only one facing these difficulties, so is every other business. The difference between you and them is that they re waiting for a miracle while you're fighting this strong. Just don't fly off to high, and consult with people you trust before you make any moves. This is not a time to sit back and wait, but it isn't a time to mess up either.
Here's to your success!

People are turning back to "What can I do that someone else may need?" This is encouraging! ThanksPosted 31st July 2009 at 03:02 PM by MarisueWrites
