As network marketers, we sometimes hit minor bumps and detours in the road that cause us to think about quitting the mlm business.
I’d like to share a story from a book called,” I Could Have Quit $7,000,000.00 Ago.” By a network marketing Giant named Dayle Maloney! He touched more lives than any other network marketer in the history of mlm.
Terry Fox was a young college student in British Columbia, and he came down with cancer in 1977. He said, “I’m going to make a difference. I want to show Canadians and the world the stuff I’m made of. I will not let anybody call me a quitter.”
Terry Fox is the man who attempted in 1980 to run across Canada from St. John’s, Newfoundland, all the way to Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. Terry had lost a leg to cancer and ran on one artificial leg and a crutch.

He didn’t start running across Canada the first day that he made his decision. He practiced for 18 months and ran over 3000 practice miles before he started his cross-country run. That’s why you first start talking to prospects in the beginning of your network marketing career, you will get a lot of “No’s”. You will talk to more people and sponsor fewer, but later you will talk to fewer people and sponsor more. It’s called practice, and never give up.
In our business the race doesn’t start overnight either. You got to practice and you get better every day …..calling prospects and showing the opportunity.
Terry left Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 heading for Vancouver. He ran a marathon a day for 146 straight days with one artificial leg and a crutch. His short term goal was to raise $1,000,000 for cancer research. His long term goal was to raise $1.00 from every Canadian, which was $24,000,000.00.
Can you imagine Terry Fox running with one artificial leg and a crutch, trying to raise money for cancer research? Believe it or not, the press was negative towards him, just like the press has been negative to the network marketing industry.
One newspaper called Terry Fox a 3 legged horse that needed to be stopped and the list of negative comments from the press continued on and on, just like in the network marketing business today.

Terry Fox was in Thunder Bay, Ontario when he had to quit on Sept 1, 1980, because the cancer had spread to both lungs. Terry went home, and passed away on June 28th, 1981 at 4:30 am.
Today Terry is the number one hero in all of Canada. There are building, highways and mountains named in his honor.
Terry Fox didn’t raise $24,000,000.00, and he didn’t raise the one million, but today on every 3rd Sunday of every September around the world, they are raising in the neighborhood of $50 Million Dollars for the Cancer Society, so one person with a dream can make a difference.
Do you have a dream that you are committed to and refuse to let the Nay Sayers steal it from you? Put the blinders on, look towards your goal and remember the great Terry Fox as an inspiration when building your network marketing business.
