DYNAMO DAEGAN, MONSTER MENTOR -
Daegan Smith interviews “Dot Com Secrets X” creator Russel Brunson
Daegan: This is your buddy Daegan Smith. Today, I’m excited because I have one of my favorite marketers in the world here on the line with me. What we’re going to talk about is something I think a lot of folks will be interested in. It’s how to actually get started in your business and be really successful quickly right out of the gate.
That’s really where a lot of people get stuck. The reason I have our special guest with us here today – Mr. Russell Brunson, who’ll I’ll say a lot of cool stuff about in a second – is because right now he’s got a membership site and a coaching program called Dotcom Secrets X.
I see so many success stories. He’s got a Facebook group where everyone coaches and helps each other. I’ve bought all his stuff myself. I’m in there just like everyone else. Every single day I go in there and see people that haven’t made a dime getting their first commissions online, and all this belief and excitement and positivity going on. It’s a stark difference, a polar opposite of what normally happens.
What I want to do is chat with Russell about what he’s employed in his Dotcom Secrets X program that’s helped people become really successful, what are some things you shouldn’t do so that you don’t make any mistakes, what you want to do if you really want to quit your job and make money online, and what’s really the most important stuff.
Before I introduce him, I just want to say this about this guy myself personally. Before I started this interview, I was joking with him because we both used to wrestle in college, and he’s been training on Brazilian jujitsu and has won some tournaments.
He always brags to me that he’s going to kick my ass. We’ve got a standing match coming up in a couple of months, and I’ve got to practice up for it. I’m a little scared but I think I’ll be a good match. All joking aside, that is going to happen.
On the marketing side, flat out there are very few people that I study personally these days, and Russell is absolutely my favorite. He has a unique ability that is so freaking valuable for anyone out there. I buy a lot of stuff and I love marketing to my core.
He has the unique ability to suck in all the good information that is out there, and then condense it down to the most important stuff. Whenever I unplug and I listen to whatever Russell is saying, it’s like getting the Cliff Notes, but the most condensed powerful Cliff Notes version of how to make the most money in the least amount of time with marketing.
If you want to make a lot of money fast, pay attention to what we talk about now. He’s bar none my favorite marketer and one of my favorite people in the world. I’m kind of jealous because I haven’t had an eight-figure year yet, but I’ll get there. Russell thanks for being here.
Just in case someone hasn’t heard about you, could you share a little bit about yourself before we start talking about Dotcom Secrets X?
Russell: Yes, thanks for having me, Daegan. I just want to return the compliment. I feel the same way. There are very few people nowadays that I’m able to actually learn from and get new stuff.
I think in the last three months, there have been three major things I’ve gotten from you that were huge, like business-changing or have shifted huge focuses of energy because of the things you’ve let me know about that I didn’t even know were possible. I’m always learning from you as well, so I appreciate you.
My background – I was a wrestler in college. I had just gotten married to my wife and wanted to figure out how to keep wrestling. I didn’t realize how much money it costs to be married. My wife was making about $10 an hour as a secretary, and that was our whole income. I was like I’ve got to figure out a way to make money so that I can keep wrestling.
I went on the Internet and started trying a bunch of stuff. For two years I tried thing after thing, and nothing really worked. Finally after about two years, I got it. I figured out that you need to have a product, you need to have a website to sell that product and you have to figure out how to drive traffic.
I don’t know why it took me two years to figure that out, but that was kind of the gist of it. So I made a product and put up a website. I started trying to drive traffic and then I finally started making sales. For me it got addicting. After it started happening, I started trying this thing and that thing, and I started trying to grow my business like crazy.
In my senior year in college, I did about $250,000 in sales, which was pretty cool. The year I graduated, I crossed the million-dollar mark. That was my goal and I hit it within a year of graduating and then it kept growing.
Our business has changed a lot in the last few years. We’ve grew at one point where I had over 100 employees. We had a call center and coaching programs. That’s when we had our eight-figure year. After that we shut down the call center and really shrunk everything really small for a little bit, and it’s been nice.
It’s been interesting. I was so heavily into coaching and that kind of a business for a long time, and now over the last year or year and a half, I’ve been really diversifying and getting into different niches.
I don’t know if you even know this Daegan. We’re actually about to launch an invisible funnel in the couponing industry, which I think we’ll get a kick out of. We’re in a whole bunch of different niches.
We’re publishing a lot of different people now and I’m having the time of my life. It’s more fun than I’ve ever had, and a lot more fun than I had when we had 100 employees. We’re also the most profitable we’ve ever been, which is exciting too.
It’s a good time. This is a fun business to be in, and now is the best time that it’s ever been. It seems like there have been regulations that came that have wiped out a lot of the takers – people who are in the business to take and to get money.
Those who are providing real legitimate value are the ones who are left standing, which is nice. It’s made it more of a clean playing field for everybody. It’s a good time to be in business right now.
Daegan: Awesome. You’re ahead of me on the family life. I’m taking a plunge myself on September 1st, right after our wrestling match – hopefully I’ll leave in glory. One thing I really admire about you is you’re so freaking efficient. You do so much stuff.
I know that you’ve got like 50 different things going on in the background, but at the same time you’re a family man, you spend a lot of time with your family and that’s what comes first. I know that’s what a lot of people want to do. That’s the way that you teach leverage and help people make money without spending a lot of energy and effort.
Before we talk about the specifics of getting started, how did you start to be able to be so prolific?
Russell: That’s a good question and it’s a hard question. The way we’ve been able to get lots of stuff done is I’ve been surrounding myself with really good people obviously. We’re doing so much stuff in so many different businesses and industries. I’ve got four kids right now, so I’ve got from 9-5 when my wife lets me work, and then after that I’ve got to be done.
It’s like how do we jam as much stuff in a day as possible? It’s funny. I go to a trainer three times a week during my lunch hour. I was five minutes late and he’s like you’re late. I said I’m jamming like six people’s days into one day and I’m five minutes late. That’s pretty danged good. I get a lot more done than most people.
I think I learned it from Tony Robbins. When I’m in a situation, I’m in it 100%. When I’m working, boom, I’m working 100% of my efforts right there. When I’m done, then I’m done and I’m with my kids. I’m there 100% with them. We work hard, we party hard and we have fun. I’ve just gotten really good at segmenting my brain.
When I’m doing something, I’m giving it 100%. I think that’s the key. Most people dabble. They get in something and they’re trying things here. Maybe they’ll do something over here. For me it’s like I don’t have time to goof off. I goof off, but it happens at 5:00 o’clock. Until 5:00 o’clock, I’ve got to go crazy. That’s the way I’ve always looked at things.

Great read. I for one should know, I've been with DCSX for about 2 mths and the training is absolutely second to none. Russell does such a great job at giving us the tools and I do mean tools to go out and promote any offer that we find interesting "and that sells" of course. My website started off as just a plain old wordpress blog and 2 mths in I am now a proud owner of a thriving money site. I went from getting 10 visitors a day to over 2000 a day. I rank on the first page of google for quite a few highly competitive keywords and the sky is the limit. As for Daegan, awesome guy. I'm involved with a # of his coops and he and Jason do great work testing like a bunch of animals. Whenever I talk to him he's always testing something or the other. Anyway's great read and take care for now.Posted 17th June 2013 at 06:58 PM by Steven Peters
