This blog is for those who are interested in giving up those cigarettes. I smoked for 49 years and never missed a day, (unless I was in the hospital). I am now into my third week and still going strong. This is a blog to help others give up the habit an the cravings for cigarettes. If I can do it, so can you. Feel free to post to the blog even if you have given up cigarettes. Help others as they post questions on how to break the habit. Yes, I use patches to help with the cravings, but that does not break the habit. The patches only take away the nicotine desire from the body. The habit is like your morning cup of coffee and having a cigarette with it. Or having a cigarette after eating. The desire for a cigarette may not be there with the morning cup of coffee, but the habit is there. Lets help one and all who come to this blog. More to come later

The first thing anyone needs to do is make a list of why you want to stop smoking. Then read over this list and see if you can find a really good reason to give up smoking. Everyone who wants to try, has to have a darn good reason for doing so. My reason was that the Dr told me I was a high risk person for having a stroke. No way do I even want to think about having a stroke. I've seen to many people who have had strokes and I don't want to be in the condition they are in. The first week was my hardest part of giving up the habit, but I made it to week 3 as of today. More to come later, give you some time here to think about why you want to quit.

Step Two In Giving Up Cigaretts

    Step Two:
Okay, now you know why you want to quit. Now it is time to move on to step two. First it might be a good idea to check with your Dr and let him/her know your plans. Especially if you have any medical conditions. I explained the difference in my header about cravings and habit. But lets run over them again. Cravings are when you have not had a cigarette for some time and you are about to die to have a cigarette. Habit is when you set down to relax or get in the car to go to work and you light up a cigarette because it is your what you do ever time you get into the car or set down to relax. I especially noticed in my case, I didn't smoke while I was working on a project, but as soon as I finished, I'd set down and light up a cigarette. Cravings will normally only last 5 to 10 minutes and habits have to be broken, just like any other habit. Here is a great way to get started on breaking the habit part of smoking. If you normally start the car, then light up a cigarette, stop and think, I'll wait awhile to light up a cigarette. I'll wait until I have drove X number of miles before lighting up. Try it, it does work. Instead of setting down to relax and reaching for the cigarettes, just tell yourself, I'll wait a few minutes before I have one. If you can just wait a few minutes and keep on increasing the time before you have that "habit" cigarette, you are on the road to breaking the "habit" part of smoking. Which for me, was harder to break then the cravings for cigarettes. More to come in step three. Practice the breaking the habit for a few days, then come back and see what is new in the way to Stop Smoking...

Step Three - How To Stop Smoking

Okay, gave you a few days to give up part of the "Habit" art of smoking. Now it's time to take the next step. (click)QuitNet(click) is a great place to get help if you live in the good old USA. They will even give you free patches, sprays, or gum to chew to help in taking away the cravings for cigarettes. Might check with your medical insurance company, as they will pay (click) QuitNet (click) for the products. Yes, the products are very expensive if you go to the drug store and buy them yourself. I don't know who sponsors QuitNet , but they give very good support 24/7, they have a chat room where you can go and chat with people who are either quitting or have quit. This chat room will give you all kinds of support and help, 24/7. I highly recommend them. One thing, before you go to the site and ask for patches and or, a spray, or gum, they will call you and chat with you for a few minutes. They want to be sure you really want to give up cigarettes, or chewing tobacco. Other wise, you probably will not get the free supplies that you need. I've seen their ads on NFL football games, so you know they are a safe and sound place to get help. From this point on, I'll leave you in their hands and I would greatly appreciate your feed back on my post. If you need any more help, just post and I'll get back to you or maybe someone else will. Best of luck...
