The Lesson of the Leaves

A few years ago I was involved in a “leaf raking party” at my church. I worked diligently for about 2 hours and had gotten quite a bit of work done.

A friend of mine, Ron, came up and complimented me on how much I had accomplished. I had worked hard and knocked off about a quarter of a football field worth of leaves.

Then I looked over at where Ron had been at work. He had come to the “party” about an hour after I had. I was amazed.

He had nearly cleared three times as much as I had. I was perplexed. After all, Ron is about 10 years older than I—was he really that much better than me?

Ron saw the expression on my face and laughed. He said, “Here, try this out.” He handed me his rake. It had a longer handle and three times more surface area. It combs were flexible not stiff as my rake. I thanked him and began using it.

Incredible. In only 15 minutes I accomplished what had taken me 2 hours of work. I loved it!

I love finding free or low cost services that allow me to be more productive (or is that just laziness?) A friend of mine put it this way, “every tool I have, is another hour with my daughter.” What a great perspective.

Recently, I came across this free tool a couple years ago but only recently saw how it automated much of my efforts and created time. You may have heard of it as well. It is called OnlyWire[. What it does is connects your social accounts and blogs and auto posts your content.

What is great about this service is that you can use it for free forever. There is a paid version, but you may not need it—cool.

I want to just talk about the free version of this tool. Is that okay? So, you go to OnlyWire and set up your account. With the free version you can connect: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Linked in—Is that awesome or what?

So how does it work? You type a post. You publish it. sends it all out. It use to take a couple hours for me to this by hand—which I often did not do.

Even the paid version is crazy cheap. For about $5 you can add on WordPress and Blogger blogs, Facebook and LinkedIn groups, Pinterest and so much more. Crazy right.

So if you love saving time this free tool might be your ticket to more time with your kids or your favorite ]John Gresham novel.

Take Care,

Don
