get a roofing book ...these can be found online
see what kind of roofing materials you have on your roof ...(shakes, shingles, metal , rubber)
then
go to the building supply house...
get at least one bundle of appropriate materials...these cost anywhere from 30 bux to 150. and weigh anywhere from 55 pound to 88 pounds.
then
go rent/buy a 28 foot ladder....say 55 bux rental
then get some roofing/ or appropriate fasteners...15 - 30 bux
then go get a friend with a pick up truck to carry the ladder and materials ...this is optional if you have a truck , but the friend will cost you a case of beer and some hamburgers....say 20 bux
now ..load everything onto the truck
stop on the way for the hamburgers ...carryout ...5 bux
now...at home ...back the truck onto the lawn in the area of the repair...be sure that the lawn is dry or you will kill the grass and have to replace that
CAREFULLY....lean the ladder against the house....do NOT lean the ladder on the gutter ..this will make it dent and bend and that will cost more than the roof repair !
then..get some young , strong irresponsible young man to carry the roofing materials onto the roof...cost is vairiable...20-40 bux
next...get out the nail puller and crowbar ( opps...gotta go back to home depot and get those....30 bux)
return home...
climb the ladder with the tools
remove the old shingles according to the home repair manual instructions which are in the truck on the ground...
climb down the ladder and get instructions...
take them with you onto the roof
and remove the shingles, or roofing materials according to the instructions.
and then replace the roofing according to the instructions.
carefully , remove all the old roofing from the roof onto the ground. load into truck .
load the ladder back onto the truck, and return to the home depot ...dont forget to collect your deposit for the ladder.
then , find some trash dump somewhere to unload the old roofing so that you dont get a ticket for littering...
go home
and clean up ...total time ..8 hours total , out of pocket expense...220.
roof repair done by you ...priceless ( until it rains and then you repeat the process)
