A good, reliable B2B copywriter is a rare breed.
!) They need to know how to write B2B, which means understanding business, and understanding copy,
2)They need real world training and experience which they often can't get after taking a crash course online.
3) Most likely, you need one with previous agency experience, that's enough real work under their belt to not only be able to adapt to your strategy, and tactics, but also blend in with a project team with moving parts.
Hiring cold, even if you can find such a person, is not a good idea.
Engaging a freelancer may be your best alternative.
With a freelancer, you can vet them, and test them and if you find a good one, experience first hand what it's like to have a pro on your team.
I know that this is how I got my big agency jobs, freelance jobs, contracts and consulting jobs.
This is especially true if you're a start up. Hiring a mid, to top level agency writer can be the equivalent of getting an agency writer. but without the price tag.
Plus, such writers often have designer and web friends, which you can often get amazing value for your early/growth stage projects.
I've certainly helped many new tech start ups articulate their value proposition, white paper and web content. And they've usually been very pleased with the results.
The one's who haven't been pleased with results, simply didn't know how to work with a seasoned pro.
That is a long talk in itself. So I will do that next time.
In the mean time, I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments below.
Hope you found this information useful.
