Square Root Day 2009
Hooray! It’s Square Root Day 2009!
What? You don’t know what that means?
Relax, Einstein. Lots of people have no idea that today is Square Root Day.
A Square Root Day occurs when you are able to multiply the current month by the current date and come up with the current year.
In this case, the month (March = 3) times the date (the 3rd = 3) equals the year (’09).
Don’t downplay the significance, either–Square Root Day happens only nine times per century.
People are celebrating Square Root Day 2009 around the globe. Among the festivities are cutting root vegetables into squares and making food in the shape of the square root symbol.
The last Square Root Day occurred on February 2 of 2004, Groundhog Day. We won’t see another until April 4, 2016.
Square Root Day Contest
Ron Gordon, a teacher from Redwood City, California, is holding a contest to generate some buzz around the Square Root Day holiday. Gordon is seeking the largest Square Root Day celebration. He would like to see the Square Root Day celebration with the greatest number of people involved.

I think this is a great idea of recognizing this special day. So many people do not really understand the significance. First of all, many people do not even understand what a square root is, in fact a perfect square root such as the square root of 9 being 3.Posted 3rd March 2009 at 06:48 PM by ynoel1
