Firstly I am going to take a minute to tell you exactly why a high converting landing page (also referred to as a sales page or pitch page) is essential for getting the most from your online business. If I asked you to double your online profit and sales in one week, you would probably tell me it can’t be done, or you would think you would have to do twice as much marketing and twice as much work, this is not the case. If you currently have a landing page that is converting 1% of your traffic, you are failing to convert 99% of your traffic. If I asked you to improve your failure rate and fail just 98% of the time this would now seem a lot more doable, and this would in turn double your sales and profit. Some people don’t convert any visitors with there sales pages and there is very obvious reasons for this. I have bought several “killer sales letter” e-books and furthermore I have attended several webinars on exactly how to improve your landing page conversion rate. Now I am going to share with you the do’s and don’ts I have learned and implemented that have improved my conversion rate.

Layout - Don’t use more than two columns, never use a format using three or more columns as it is proven not to work as well, always use 1 or 2 columns for best results. Centre your headings and sub headings, but make sure the rest of your text is left justified.

Header - your header has to reach out and grab your readers attention, failure to do so will result in your visitors not even reading your first paragraph. It is proven that headers with big bold red letters are by far the most effective. It is worth while experimenting with different types of headers for best results. Pick your wording carefully. Using question headers like “Would you like to earn $5000 per month?” is very effective as is controversial headings for example “Miss This Chance and You WILL Be Poor”, or use a quote for example “I lost 33lbs in under 5 weeks! You can do it to!”. Evoking emotion from your reader and telling them of the benefit to them will always produce good results. Make sure there is symmetry between your head/sub head and the text that follows below it. In other words make sure the paragraph below your headers and sub headers is relevant to what ever you have just said.

Turning skimmers into readers- You will get two types of viewers, skimmers and readers, readers will read every word on the page, where as skimmers just skim the page. You goal should be to turn your skimmers into readers the easiest way to do this is to use sub headings and bold selling the benefits of what ever you are offering. Be careful to make sure you are selling benefits to your visitor and not the features. Only use sub headlines and bold periodically through the page, not all the time and make sure you are writing benefits that will grab your skimmers attention and turn them into readers. Special Note : By emphasising everything you end up emphasising nothing.

Purpose/Objective - Your landing/sales page should only ever have one objective, for example getting an email address, getting your visitor to buy one product, or even just getting your visitor to go to the next page. Giving your visitor too many options will result in them not doing anything. If your objective is to get a visitors email address do not ask them lots of questions, simply offer them some form of freebie or a promise they can not resist, and ask only for there first name and email address, and you will find this a lot more effective. The more information you ask your visitor for the worse your conversion rate will be. If you are looking to sell product create separate landing pages for each product, so each landing page is only promoting one product.

Video/Audio- A picture is worth a thousand words. Testing has proven that landing pages are no different and by using videos or even audio on your landing page you will increase your conversion. At minimum you should have a picture of yourself.

Testimonials - It is always worthwhile putting testimonials into sales pages, as this builds your credibility with the reader as well as re-assuring them that other people with no connection to you have found that your product/service truly does offer what you say it does. Never introduce testimonials, your visitor already knows what it is. Using back ground shading and/or italics for testimonials makes them stand out more and helps portray a more professional overall look to your landing/sales page.

Submit/Purchase Button - Never use wording on your submit/payment button like “submit form” or just “buy“, your button is another great opportunity to sell your visitor the benefit of submitting there email address or buying your product. Your button is a sales tool always treat it like one. For example instead of “submit form“, it should say “Send me my FREE Gift now!”, instead of “buy”, it should say “Yes, I want to earn $5000+ a month!”

Contact details - Always make sure you have contact details on your landing/sales page, at least an email address, however a contact phone number and address as well will always help reassure your visitor you are legitimate and in turn will up your chances of them buying. Putting your name on this page is a must , you should also have your signature where possible or at least put your name in a different font.

If you implement even some of the tips I have given you above, it is proven your conversion rate will improve, for a more in depth look into the best resource I have found for “how to write a killer sales letter” click here
