As a blogger I have learned a lot over the years. My first blog was more like a personal scrapbook. Since I was always posting pictures of my children and sharing where we had been and where we were going that day, I kept the blog set at private. I didn’t have any blog traffic. Later I needed a blog that anyone could see; In fact, I wanted everyone to visit my blog because I was using it as a tool to get traffic to my web site where I sell products. Then I learned about SEO, and other ways to get traffic to my blog. I created a Twitter account and a Facebook account. I use both Twitter and Facebook methods to post links to certain articles in my blog.

Then I realized with all the emailing I do that I should have an automatic email signature set up in my email program that has the links to my web site, my blog, my Facebook, my Twitter and my Flickr accounts.

Another thing I learned is that my followers do not want to read only about the products I sell. I post other interesting life stories about my pets and silly things that they do. This has increased my blog traffic and I now have over one hundred followers. I visit my followers’ blogs and make comments on things that they write about on their blogs and then they do the same. Sometimes we feature each other on our blogs. This brings in more followers, because my blog is now seen on other folks’ blogs.

Probably the most important thing in writing a blog is SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization. You have to use the right key words. Additionally, you have to optimize your blog with these keywords by putting them in the titles and content of your posts. You also need to make these keywords the title of your blog post categories and post specific content to these categories using the same keywords. There are many good articles on the Internet about how to use good SEO for blogs. Once you learn SEO, you will see your blog traffic increase in leaps and bounds.
