Why Is My Website Not Ranking – SEO 101
Posted 25th May 2010 at 09:52 AM by dsmpublishing
Do you know the feeling of creating a website or niche blog and writing a ton of articles, blog commenting, forum marketing, ect but you are not showing up in Google. Or maybe you are showing up in Google, but it is on the 22nd page. I know the frustration, and if I had one tool that changed my ranks in Google it was to have my site optimized for Google correctly.
In order to do this, you need to do a handful of things. Sure you can read a million seo guru’s blogs on the Internet, but if you follow these simple rules your seo will be improved in a matter of weeks. You have to take action to what you read. Don’t just keep submitting articles, blog commenting, ect and expect to get ranked on the first page of Google. It won’t happen! You have to have your website or blog optimized.
1. Keywords In The Title Tags
2. Keywords In Description Tag
3. Keywords In H1 Tag
4. Sprinkle Keywords Through H2-H4 tags
5. Use Your Keywords In Anchored Text
6. Bold and Italicize Keywords
7. Use keywords In Alt Text
Keywords In The Title Tag
This is the MOST important thing you need to do. I do a lot of seo work for businesses, and one thing that kills me is when I analyze their site, and don’t see their keywords in the the title tags. Move your keywords toward the front for better results. For instance, if our keywords are make money online, use this as a title; Make Money Online – The Truth Is Finally Exposed. See how the keywords are in the tag?
Don’t just use the keywords “Make Money Online.” You need to have a call for action phrase that entices people to click on it. This is what is going to show up in Google. If you just had “Make Money Online” there is really no reason to click. You have to generate thoughts, and call for actions do that. You have to egg people on to want to click your link. That is the end goal, right?
Keywords In Description Tag
You must put your keywords in the description meta tag. Use them twice if you can, but be careful not to put your keywords too close to each other. If so you could be docked for keyword stuffing. Be creative when doing your description tags, these are very important and like the title they have to have a call for action phrase in them. Do not come up with these description tags in a matter of seconds. You will see poor results if you do. Come up with 5 and then pick the best.
Keywords In H1-H4 Tags
This is another important factor that you need to consider. It would be ideal to have your keywords in your H tags. This helps the spiders know what your site is about. When they spider your site they look at the title, meta, H tags, ect. Be careful to not just use your keywords in these tags. Put some other words in there to. All keywords in your H1 tags will get you ignored by the spiders, not to mention could get you banned for keyword stuffing. Just mix it up!
Bold and Italicize Your Keywords
Just like H tags the spiders also search your site for bolded text and italicized text. But, just like the H tags you do not want to just bold and italicize your keywords only. Mix it up and also bold and italicize other words. Do it all throughout your page, because this looks a lot more natural, and Google loves stuff that looks natural.
Alt Tag Your Keywords
Just like the H tags and bolded and italicized text you want to sprinkle your keywords in a couple of your image alt tags. You can really get a lot of traffic just by having your keywords in the alt tags. People search by images on Google all the time. One site I run actually gets 200 searches a month just from Google images alone. Now, I am not saying to put your keywords in ALL your alt tags. You just want to sprinkle them in a couple of them.
Keywords In Links
Another guideline you need to do is optimize your links. To do this try to put your keywords in your anchored text and link to pages on your site. The search engine takes consideration based on your internal links. But, Google does not just like internal links, put your keywords in links that link outside of your site. One thing I commonly do is link to wikipedia with my keywords in the anchored text. This will help your rank tremendously.
If you follow these simple tips you should be able to rank higher in Google as long as you have authority backlinks pointing to your sites, and have done proper backlink building. All to often I see novice affiliate marketers that fail to follow these simple guidelines and wonder why they are ranked on the 22nd page of Google. You have to have your page optimized correctly or you are simply wasting your time.
