Effective Social Media Marketing Tactics for Health Businesses
by Gary Messinger

Do you know that many people now read online reviews of nutritional supplements or search for product information of prescription medications before purchasing? What does this mean? It means that people have become more pro-active and discerning in their buying decisions, especially when their health is concerned. For health-related businesses, it means that there’s now a bigger need to invest on online marketing strategies, particularly on social media.

Social media has quickly become a primary means for marketers to build and promote brands, address concerns of consumers, and engage them in conversations about products and services. Health care brands can look into capitalizing on this trend by using social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for spreading their messages across.

So what can health businesses do to get onboard in social media marketing?

Establish presence with an optimized website

The first step is to put up a website that’s not only clean and professional but also user-friendly. A customer-centric website is one that’s after the consumer’s convenience. It should provide detailed and easy-to-understand medical information related to the products being sold. It should offer complete product information including ingredients, side effects, directions for use and so on. If possible, include customer reviews.

The website should also be easy to navigate, with web pages readily available for viewing using only a few clicks. Having a shopping cart feature on the website is also a good idea so consumers can easily purchase your products without having to leave the website and order somewhere else.

Don’t forget to include a comprehensive “about us” so people would know more about your company’s history and objectives. It’s easier to trust a company that consumers have gotten to know more about.

Sign up on social media accounts

There’s a plethora of social networks to choose from that it’s so easy to get overwhelmed. Look at which sites are most commonly used by other health care brands and study if these will work to your advantage as well. Then use these social networks for the following strategies:

· Promote business website and other company information on social media sites.
· Educate consumers with health-oriented information that’s easy to digest. Provide general knowledge about the products you offer.
· Monitor social media conversations about your products. This will enable you to gain customer insight without the need for extensive market research.
· Comment on conversations about your products. If someone gives positive feedback, thank the person for the compliment. If it’s a negative review, address the issue and defend your side in the most polite way possible.
· Encourage people to share their opinions and experiences about health-related issues to keep contacts engaged. When you reach out personally to your contacts, it would be easier to build a relationship with them.

Online marketing can do so much for businesses like health care brands. Just make sure that you devote enough time and energy to do everything the right way.

Yes, education about supplements is very important because not all supplements are alike. Personally I use NutriSearch Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements For the Americas. It provides a compilation of scientifically based information on nutritional supplementation.
