Tips for Better Time Management in Social Media Marketing
by Gary Messinger

Social media marketing is one proof that the best things in life are free. Spreading your message across thousands of potential customers without spending a dollar—how great is that? It’s no wonder many businesses have jumped into the bandwagon of social media marketing to get the word out about what they offer. But it’s important to remember that although mostly free, social media can eat up a lot of your time. That is why, time management is necessary to make the most out of your marketing tactics.

Set up your marketing goals

Businesses have one primary goal and that’s to increase sales. And while that’s the ultimate objective, short-term goals can vary and this is where you have to be discerning. What do you want your marketing tactics to achieve? Some possible goal include:

· Build company brand and identity
· Boost online visibility to attract more traffic to website
· Expand network and get to know more people who can be partners, investors or customers
· Attract new consumers and retain existing customers
· Do marketing research to find out customer insights about your products

Knowing right from the start what you want your social media marketing strategies to achieve would help ensure that you don’t waste time on tactics that won’t get you nearer to your goals.

Develop a strategy that promotes wise use of your time

Now that you have clear goals in mind, the next step is to formulate a strategy that will enable you to achieve these goals and at the same time, help you use your time wisely. Here are some ideas:

· Set up a schedule – Allot a part of your day for posting on Facebook, tweeting messages on Twitter, or creating videos for YouTube. Stick to that schedule. Don’t be on social media when you’re supposed to be meeting clients or doing paperworks.
· Focus on most effective activities – At first, you may not have an idea on which particular tactics work but as time goes on, you’ll know better, and this would enable you to concentrate more of your time on those that give the most impact. For example, if Facebook updates give you the highest user engagement then dedicate more time for this.
· Go after quality and not quantity – Don’t waste precious time trying to attract too many followers or contacts. You’d be better off having 500 highly interactive followers than 10,000 that don’t care about what you have to say.
· Don’t be distracted – Browse through your Facebook news feed and before you know it, you’ve already spent an hour or two. There may be a lot of interesting things to check out but remember that you have more important things to do for your business. Keep on your purpose and resist the urge to get sidetracked.

Use specialized tools or a digital marketing specialist

Hiring a digital marketing specialist may mean money out of your pockets but this can actually be a good investment since you’ll be able to save a lot of time. Not only that, you can also be sure that your business takes on highly-effective marketing tactics that would yield positive results. It’s also a good idea to make use of specialized tools for handling social media activities. Some examples to check out are,, RSS, and FriendFeed.

Learn to manage your time wisely on social media and before you know it, you’ll be reaping the benefits for your business.
