How Is Your AdSense Privacy Policy? Is Your Website Compliant?

I was just reading something very interesting about the Google AdSense Privacy Policy (GAPP), actually a list of policies. Did you know that with one simple little oversight, you could lose your AdSense account ... forever?

One of my marketing mentors has pointed out that there are some very specific guidelines that Internet Marketers need to be aware of, including a requirement that Google AdSense (GA) account holders post clear privacy policies on their websites. Do you have a privacy policy posted on your website?

The guidelines also prohibit certain activities and marketing programs on any websites that have GA ads. Ignorance of the policy is apparently no protection from the penalty of being forever banned from ever again having a GA account. They say it is the responsibility of every website owner with GA ads on their site(s) to review the GAPP guidelines regularly for updates and changes. And the GAPP changes often, apparently.

My mentor noted that all GA sites are eventually reviewed to insure that the sites comply with the GAPP. Sites that are not in compliance get banned from GA forever. There are no warnings.

You can read the complete GA policies here: Google AdSense Program Policies

Your GAPP-compliant privacy policy must be on an independent page on your site. The link to that page is commonly placed in the footer of your website and the link should point directly to the privacy policy page with no redirects, pop-ups or pages in between. Be sure that if you ever make changes to your website footer, your privacy policy link remains in place.

You should note also that third party ads on your website must be in compliance with the GAPP or you risk being penalized.

Also, be careful that your newsletters and email promotions that link back to any of your websites that have GA do not contain non-compliant promotions or this could possibly get your GA account banned.

One more thought. Be alert to old forgotten articles, pages and other materials that may still be on your domain, but may not be compliant with GAPP guidelines. Again, ignorance or oversight is not a defense. You must be diligent in your awareness of GAPP and in the operation of any sites that contain GA.

So, how is your AdSense privacy policy? Is your website compliant? Just one more thing that website owners need to be aware of.
