Effective Time Management Skills

Few Internet Marketers argue against the wisdom of developing effective time management skills. When you manage your time wisely, you increase your productivity and your earning ability.

Plenty of resources are available to coach you on proven ways of managing your time. In fact, there are entire books and audio programs devoted to the issue.

Here, briefly, are a few recommendations:

1) Focus:

To be an effective time manager, you must clearly know your purpose and objectives. Set clear goals and condition your mind to focus on them.

2) Organization:

Effective time management skills must include a strong element of planning and organization. We can easily waste a lot of time trying to decide what to do or how to do it. When we have a plan in place, we can get right down to doing what must be done. Personally, the best organizational technique that I know of is making daily lists.

3) Priorities:

Lists are great, but if you want to truly magnify their power, then be certain to prioritize the items on your list. Identify the things you must do, should do, and would simply like to do. This helps to create a mental picture of your priorities.

Once you have your priority items identified, then make a firm personal commitment to always focus on the top priorities first before doing any second-level or third-level tasks.

4) Action:

Now that you know your absolute top priority at any given moment, get to work on it immediately and focus on it until it is done.

When you focus on an important task without distraction, you make the most efficient use of your time and your energies. The result will be increased productivity, and the benefits will cascade down to everything else you do.

5) Checkpoints:

Even with clear goals, organized priorities and a firm commitment to action, we can sometimes find ourselves slipping back into old habits of unfocused inefficiency. The best way to counteract this is to ask yourself at various points throughout the day, “Is this the most valuable use of my time right now?”

For maximum efficiency, seek always and only to do the highest value activities at any given moment. This is something I have learned from Brian Tracy, one of the most recognized authorities on personal development and maximum achievement.
