get confuse on Google PR

I am really confuse on Google PR, How to increase Google PR effective, A lot people say you need to update fresh and original content, this could be true but need to be more specific, I was to update few post every three days, Google Index getting more and more, and organic Traffic increase a little, I think That works, But when i update day by day, Google seems do not like it, Google get more and more smart, It can detect your site, and rate it, It's harder and harder to analysis Google algos.
Some of my keywords( authentic Chinese food recipes blog, Chinese food blog) are go to top, but i lost myself on SEO, I have no idea which back link works and which one not. That make me a headache, I have to continue test on all kind of back links, Even back links from Warrior.
The SSL really get tiny effect on Ranking, I just active my SSL, it seems not work at all. Google could be increase PR to the site with SSL later.
