How Are You Influenced? (Take the Test - Enclosed)

I woke up this morning and immediately asked myself this question as I do on a regular basis.

Why you might ask?

Because our surroundings influence us.
I don’t always get everything I want to get done because of my surroundings and by keeping my eyes open and mind alert on this one question, I can increase my productivity by some crazy numbers. Now when I say that, I am not “blaming” my surroundings. I am blaming myself for putting myself in a place with negative surroundings.

It’s just like when I was growing up and got into some things I shouldn’t have. I always heard, “That crowd he is running with is not good for him.” It wasn’t the crowds fault. It was my fault completely.

I want to take you through a very small and simple success test on influence. This is extremely important. This is something I learned from a mentor of mine a couple of years ago.

1) Take a piece of paper and a pen or pencil and number the paper “1-10.”

2) Without thinking too hard, write down the 10 closest people that you interact with on a regular basis.

3) Beside their names, write down as much information as you know about them. (Strengths, weaknesses, current jobs, how much money they make, the direction they are taking their lives, etc.)

4) Now look at what you have written down. Are you about equal (give or take a little) with your list?

You see, it is a proven fact that we end up being (to a certain extent) similar to the 10 closest people to us. That is in terms of general life, success, jobs, etc. This is the largest influence on our lives that we have control over.
