I see a lot of threads on here where people are either asking how to make money on Twitter, or how to drive traffic to their site from Twitter.

It's actually very simple, far more than most people think.

Rule #1: Give your followers something of value.

For some reason this key component is left out of most people's twitter strategy. They create tons of accounts. They get software to add tons of followers. They set up autoresponders that DM everyone who follows them and software that schedules their tweets for them.

Then they post a bunch of links to their site, and people ignore them, and they lose followers or even worse get banned. And they have no idea why their Twitter campaign didn't work.

It's because they left out rule #1. So here is what you really need to do to succeed on Twitter.

1. Find your niche. Pick a subject and stick with it. Stay focused and relevant.

2. Create multiple accounts. Twitter limits the amount of people you can follow at once, and it can be tricky to build followers at first.

3. Post relevant content. Post things that will help people who are interested in your niche. Post links sparingly, and don't just post links to your own site. Mix it up a bit.

4. Put in some personal stuff. What you had for lunch, a new song you like, whatever. Make your account seem like a human, not a business.

5. Automate anything you can. Get a good twitter friend adder. Schedule your tweets and setup a good strategy. Avoid autoresponders, but actually communicate with your audience.

If you follow these 5 simple steps you'll be well on your way to a successful twitter campaign within a month or two. And the more followers you build, the more will come later. Keep posting great stuff, and build relationships and your campaign will succeed.
