Reversing The Funnel

Preface:
At 4 AM, I pulled my dreary self to attend the bonus webinar of the Quck Start Challenge.
Looking back at the last few weeks, I have to give credit where credit is due: I did not learn anything especially new, but the call to take actions that I had never taken before has been a worthwhile learning experience. I.e. I got my money's worth from the QSC, and I can heartily endorse the fellows behind this 4 week course.
The bonus webinar provided some valuable insights. I took notes and stuck out the whole 2 hours despite the audio getting dropped again and again. So I have to give the bonus webinar a thumbs-up, even as I fight to keep my eyes open and spirits half-awake.
The webinar was also entirely predictable. The whole Quick Start Challenge was set up as a campaign to promote itself. The participants made blog posts and videos about the challenge. So it was no surprise that the final "bonus" webinar was the final part of the funnel to bring participants into the $2000 coaching program.
Part 1: Revelations and Inspirations
I didn't get in to the coaching program. Even if I had the money, I would not have gone for it. Far from having a negative attitude toward the whole thing, I was actually inspired because of this webinar. When the speaker asked the obligatory leading questions while presenting his offer, I found myself giving the wrong answers. I even wrote, "no" in the chat box once, thinking it was the correct answer.
The leading question was, "If I (the speaker) gave you my already-made business - the one that has made me and many of my students thousands and thousands of dollars - do you think that would increase your chances of success?" My answer was, "No, because I did not create the business." It was the wrong answer . . . for the webinar. It was the right answer for me.
An earlier question was, "Which would you rather have, 5 sales of $1000 each, or 1000 sales of $5 each?" My answer to that question was wrong, too. Here's why? While the IM lifestyle of working fewer hours while making more money is a major major dream, the purpose of my business is to reach as many people as I can to provide something of value. That's the way I see it.
And then I watched the funnel in action. I knew I was not going to purchase anything, so I was able to separate myself from the moment and watch how these successful marketers spun their customers around the rim and down the -- sorry, but there was the distinct sensation of customers sliding down a toilet bowl. Not for me. . . Not for my customers either.
In teaching, my motto has become, "Free to achieve." It's the opposite of trapping bodies and forcing my ideas upon them. I want my students to think for themselves and create their own successes. While I watched the webinar's funnel aggressively sucking participants down to it's narrow hole, the revelation came to me - I have to create a reverse funnel. Still working on the details
