I tell people to visualize standing on a beach looking at an ocean watching the waves come in. Then I tell them if you can imagine that ocean being the internet with each wave being some new change on line you will have some perspective as to what is taking place in the world today. There is a lot of money being made by those able to predict, ride or create those waves.
I would like to state that I make no claim to being an internet expert or guru. I am just an old real estate broker who realized that our small family business would have to understand and embrace the changes the internet would bring to the real estate industry. There is a lot to know and understand and each wave brings a change. As promised I am going to cover the basics you as a Realtor TM need to understand and utilize to be a successful real estate internet marketer. Being here on active rain is a step in the right direction. Writing articles for your blog will drive traffic to your website.
Now lets start at square one. You have just obtained your real estate license and are working for a broker. In our association there are approx 1135 RealtorsTM. As of October last year 928 of them hadn't done 3 deals. Now there are many reasons for that including many Realtors TM are in the business part time and more interested in socializing than making money. Many are never properly trained and run out of money and have to leave the business. I could go on and on but I am in the real estate business to make money. If you are in the business to make money try and associate and learn from the agents in the office who are making the money. You will notice they have most of the office listings. The big listers make the big money.
This tells us your real estate internet marketing has to attract listings or generate leads from prospective home sellers. The first thing you need is your own website dedicated to that cause initially but with the understanding it will also be used to market your listings online.
This website has to be designed and built to be search engine friendly. Most have heard of SEO (search engine optimization) Beware of confusing and slow loading websites (Many Franchise sites are like this) Your website must be quick, easy to navigate and built around the right keywords and phrases. Your domain name is the first thing the search engines pick up. We work in the municipality of East Hants. Our domain name is Http://www.easthants.com with our real estate page hosted on a sub domain http://www.easthants.com/realestate ( we get over 4,000,000 hit's a year on our real estate website)
You need to decide the community you want to list homes in and then start by building a website providing free information about that community. You can buy a domain name that promotes that community or several domain names and forward them to your website. I use http://www.larrymatthews.com for my point2 site because my name is associated with real estate in our area.
Article marketing refers to writing articles to drive traffic to your website. You can post these articles on your active rain blog to accomplish the same thing. There are many article marketing sites that I utilize. One article I wrote was Real Estate Investment Blueprint. Try searching that on Google to see what I mean. (See below) Out of 1,840,000 results my article is number one in the Search Results. The first 3 are paid adds.
