I recently came across an email service saying a PO Box was not lawfully allowed when sending emails. (My review of the service is here.)

This is incorrect.

CAN-SPAM states that when sending commercial email the sender needs to include their "valid physical postal address".

Since 2008 the FTC has said you can use a street address, or a PO Box, or a private mail box / account registered with a commercial mail receiving agency.

For privacy and safety reasons, especially if you are doing business from home, you may not want to include your home address on your email messages.

Using a Post Office Box to comply with CAN-SPAM Act requirements is fine.
