Did You Take Action Today With This Breaking News?

Earlier today Prince died. You couldn't have missed it ... one of the biggest acts in music history unexpectedly dying. It has been all over the news and Internet.
Every day there is big news. Not always this big, but there is always something going on.
Not only is this big news, but it is new, as in new "keywords" are (and will) be searched for relating to Prince.
I know "profiting from death" can be controversial. If it's not for you it's not for you. That's fine.
When Michael Jackson died and broke the Internet, the traffic volume to a brand new funeral site took down my web host, then took down my dedicated server. We're talking serious traffic.
When Walter Cronkite died my site received comments from dignitaries around the world.
Does every site trying to take advantage of breaking news do well? No. Sometimes you can't break into Google with a new website no matter what - or when you do the wave of traffic is over.
Still, the initial large payoff can be tremendous, and a small payoff can continue for years.
After all, it takes ten bucks to register a domain and have it for a full year. With something like my lifetime hosting WSO there really isn't any significant hosting cost.
So ... this morning I put a Prince Collectibles site. Took no time at all. There isn't a significant amount of content, but they key is what content are you targeting.
Prince fans are now collectors fans.
"Prince" is a bit vague, broad, and you're not going to crack it and it's not profitable anyway.
But individual Prince products, like a Prince comic book that you can get an affiliate commission for promoting, that is not too hard.
Time to create the site: less than two hours. Time this asset can make me money: for as long as I want it to.
So what did you do today to make money?
When you see breaking news do you just read the news like everyone else? Or do you put your entrepreneur hat on and evaluate how you can make some money from the event?
