Some Do's and Don'ts of Email Marketing

So many are aware that building a healthy list is one of the biggest steps in developing a stable online income.
But it really comes down to how effectively you can email market to that list. And have you noticed lately there are more and more courses on that very subject?
I've bought and studied the majority of them. And there are so many opinions on what to do, what not to do, that it gets very confusing.
Some say you should be very consistent when you email: if you're going to email every day than stick with that. If you're going to mail once a week stick with that.
Others go further and say to use a 'template' so all your emails look the same and are familiar to your subscribers.
Then a bunch of other courses get into 'tricks and tactics' to basically coerce your subscribers into opening your mails.
Well I've learned a few things from studying all these courses, then implementing various strategies with my own lists. Here are a few:
* be different from 99% of other email marketers
* change is good - subscribers get pretty used to hearing from you everyday if you're a daily mailer, so change up your frequency (my open rates exploded when I tried this)
* same goes for length and style of email - change that up to keep your subscribers curious as to what's coming next
* start off right by engaging with your new subscribers - ask questions, get them involved in the discussion, and find out what types of information they're actually looking for (which caused my inbox to explode with awesome replies from engaged subscribers)
In a nutshell, when it comes to email marketing, being different from the majority is not a bad thing at all. Think about it - how many 'nearly identical' emails do you get from various marketers each day, promoting the same product?
Maybe it makes more sense to stand out from the crowd a little bit, especially with your email marketing.
