A lot of effort and time is spent on driving traffic to the website and there are a lot of suggestions out there on the best and worst ways to build traffic to a site.

Remember that how you rank on the popular search engines is the biggest deciding factor on the amount of visitors you get. Below we take a look at the popular recommendations that can increase your traffic and find out if they are true or just a popular myth.

Duplicate or Spun content is bad for you

Let me start by saying this is entirely true. The recent Google update ensures that a website that has duplicate content is penalized as a whole (not just the page with the duplicate content). Websites with duplicate content will find it very difficult to rank. Even if you are posting a description from the manufacturer or quoting others, you have to ensure you have other unique and original contents along with the pasted content to let Google rank you.

Lower Bounce Rate Will Increase Rankings

This is a myth. Even though lower bounce rate implies more visitors are becoming engaged, it does not really play a part in deciding rankings. Bounce rate is simply the number of visitors who move away from a page without interacting with the page in any way. According to Google, this characteristic or attribute is not considered when the rankings of a page or site are calculated.

Optimising The Title On Page Will Get Better Rankings

This is certainly true. One of the easiest things you can do is make sure your title packs a punch in it. You should add the specific phrase you want to rank for in the title and make it attractive. Title pages have been important since the good old days, but the surprising fact is that it continues to be so.

Spread Your Online Network To Get More Visitors

This is indeed true. Even if you have a great website that attracts visitors, you can do even better by spreading your online wings. Having a facebook or twitter account and linking it up with your Youtube, Instagram or your website will get you many more visitors. Having a strong online presence will in turn help you perform better in the search engine rankings too.
