While global warming plays havoc with the environment and overpopulation adds to the pressure on the environment religious cohorts insist on protecting all life and encouraging ever more births. Refusing to allow abortion and striving to keep people alive well past their time only adds to the stress we are going through.

With resources dwindling, species extinction prevalent, rainfall becoming rarer in many parts of the world the problems mount as floods, cyclones, tsunamis and earthquakes devastate agriculture, destroy homes, even cities, and impose increased hardships in virtually every country. So why do we need more people?

It is rare to find families with less than three children and most have in excess of four in most places where my research took me. Overpopulation is horrific in places like India and Africa where the number of children per couple is outrageous. With ever fewer resources to feed, clothe and sustain them populations are in crisis. Yet governments still encourage more children.

The Australian government, for one, has increased the baby bonus to $5,000. This has meant that many children are now being deserted by parents of larger families who simply cannot cope. At least three cases reported in the last month and one of those in Canberra. 3 year old twins, a 5 and 7 year old and the eldest was 16. The house was squalid with unfed animals.

In Australia the once mighty Murray River is almost dry and the lake at its mouth, upon which the city of Adelaide is dependent for water, is so bad that the prognosis is to either let sea water in or loose it completely. Successive governments in 4 states have over allocated water to agriculture and the vast food bowl that once supplied produce to the world is now on the brink of desertification. Huge farming and grazing properties are closing down as the owners walk off them to try to find a future elsewhere.

In an effort to stop the drain the federal government is now offering a payment of $150,000 per farmer to stay on the land but to undertake retraining at more government expense.

At the same time the Federal and State governments are advertising overseas for migrants to come here to take up jobs. As the population grows the need for more services also grows and now there is chronic shortage of professionals as well as water, hospital beds, teaching staff, doctors, dentists, nurses, and so on.

These governments comprise politicians who are religious fundamentalists that follow the teaching of their faith. The Minister for Health in the last Federal government openly believes in a virgin birth for his religious prophet while the last Treasurer paid grants of up to $4,000 for every baby born. The new government under Rudd, another religious follower, has increased the bonus to $5,000.

Throughout 25 years of research and observations how people act and what they believe, completely unsupported by facts, has left me stunned. Doesn't anyone think outside the square anymore? Are they so brainwashed that logic and self preservation is beyond their comprehension?

The world is in a spin as one tragedy follows the other and usually more devastating than before. Solutions can only come about outside of religion which, to my mind, is killing us all. My bible research was a revelation in terms of what is to come. HELP!
