Hey folks,

This is a just a quick blog post about your websites rankings in Google.

I responded to thread the other day, think it was titled "Sudden Drop In SERPS".

I can't find that post now. So I'm just doing a quick blog post on it, since I think a lot of people might be going backlink crazy when they're site disappears from the front page to #70.

That was what had happened to one of the folks on the forum who were wondering about what had happened.

Not the backlinking crazy part, but confusion about why it had happened.

I could empathize with it as I followed the adsense blueprint for a site, built the site up, got it ranking for different terms and then WHAM >>> It was gone.

Still in the top 100 but nowhere that it was going to get traffic.

So the site sat idle for a while as it is relying on search traffic only.

That's because I short-cutted the course. I used my own knowledge of SEO and didn't do the guest blogs, web 2.0 etc. I used the course for the site setup and then done my own SEO thing.

The site did disappear, and that's maybe why the adsense blueprint covers all the different linking techniques to avoid the site ranking and then falling off.

But,

The important part!

When your site falls off the front page, what do you do?

I just don't think it's a good idea to panic and start throwing a lot of links at a site when it loses traffic.

For the site that I was working on, it took 2 weeks. What did I change? Nothing!

I continued letting the backlinks continue to grow at exactly the same rate and this morning when I checked ranks...

It's back up. Front page for most of the keyword phrases.

So, when your site takes a sudden drop in the ranks. I would just continue doing what you're doing. Especially on new sites. If it's an aged domain you're using, then you might be able to do stronger linking but I've no knowledge in that area so can't say.

I buy the domains brand new, using godaddy.com. Build the sites on WordPress and based on the purpose of the site, I'll set it up accordingly. AdSense sites have their themes and affiliate sites uses a different one.

Please, don't go from a drop in the SERPS, to getting de-indexed for panicking.

Keep it cool, do what you've been doing. If you're in doubt, ask in the forum. You'll get a bunch of different replies, probably contradicting the answers you get, but it's up to you to measure the responses, see which is the most common reply, that's the most explained and check out the users posting.

After time, my guess is that you'll get to know which warriors are great for advice on SEO, who to listen to for PPC, others for adsense and so on.

Every forum is the same. Made up of users who, even though they may not think of themselves as experts in a specific field, they'll have the knowledge to advise on things.

Just ask.
