We think Jay Conrad Levinson; author of “Guerrilla Marketing” summarizes this best in his list of the
“10 Most Important Marketing Secrets”…
1. You must have commitment to your marketing program.
2. You must think of that program as an investment.
3. You must see to it that your program is consistent.
4. You must make your prospects confident in your firm.
5. You must be patient in order to make a commitment.
6. You must see that marketing is an assortment of weapons.
7. You must know that profits come subsequent to the sale.
8. You must run your firm to be convenient for your customers.
9. You must put an element of amazement in your marketing.
10. You must use measurement to judge the effectiveness of your weapons.
1. Your dedication to your marketing program must be planned, organized and consistent. Time must be spent working and reviewing your program everyday. Results must be analyzed, adjustments made.
2. Your marketing program is an investment in your business. What ever form of program you have chosen, and no matter what the time or money factor is, you are representing your business and you must be consistent and put your best foot forward.
3. Consitency is working your program every single day. Schedule the time to review your efforts, make minor adjustments, but be patient with changes. If your program consists of email marketing, social media following, follow up phone calls, etc., you must be sure that you stick to the plan you have developed.
4. Confidence in your organization comes from building a rapport that stems from your availability, the quality of you work and the answers to questions that are asked. Are you there when you are needed, to you have consistent policies, are your instructions easy to follow, and more, all lead to building confidence.
5. Patience it is said is a virtue, and never more so in your marketing efforts. Stick to the program you have set up, vary it only slightly in the short term. People like consistency, if you change things to quickly it will scare people off. Look to the big brands like McDonalds, Ronald and the Golden Arches do not change. The more times you are seen, consistently, the more people get to know you and trust you.
6. Marketing is more than throwing up ads on a billboard or website, it is developing your marketing program so that it encompasses many aspects of the market you are targeting. In the internet arena it is social media marketing on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and a myriad of other sites. Articles and blogs keeping your flow of information steady and consistent. Email campaigns help keep you in front of your current customers who are some of your best prospects as they already trust you. The weapons you have in your arsenal must be used
and replenished and upgraded as time goes on.
7. Once your prospect buys from you, they have developed a level of trust in you and your organization. There is nothing more important than your current customers, they are the ones that will continue to buy from you, and they are the ones that will sell your product for you. Don’t you love the words, so and so told me about how great your product / program is!
8. Access to your organization must be easy. With the internet you have no excuse, you are able to post FAQ’s, have a help center, chat room, forums, all easily accessible to all your clients with internet access. But don’t stop there, an email campaign to follow up, with tips and suggestions, news of upgrades and free offers, all with a way to get in touch with you.
9. I like this part of the marketing program – Amazement! The wow a free upgrade, the great tips they send me every week, the new statistics of what is happening in my marketplace. You can always think of ways to assist your clients, and though it is unfortunate, it is rarely done today. Make a point of being the unusual organization the is consistently helping your clients with something amazing.
10. Measure your results on a regular basis, a monthly or quarterly review is essential in seeing what has been effective and what hasn’t. Improvement can always take place in both the successful and the not so successful areas of your marketing. But be careful, you do not want to change to much to fast. Make any changes on an incremental basis, sudden, fast changes will scare your clients, ease them in to the new, better way.
Marketing is a science, one that it is worth the investment of your time to get to know better. There are a myriad of books, articles, blogs, etc., with information that will assist you, and many of the sites will give awaytheir information, the library is chocked full of books and some libraries will put you on a mailing list so that books of interest that come out will get you an email saying it is ready for you.
Investment in learning more is never wasted. Learning more about your niche and becoming an expert will grow your business. They say that if you read 10 books on your niche you will be an expert, so the way I see it, you will be an expert in your niche by year end. Go do it!
Happy Marketing!
