My "New" Business Plan
Posted 24th August 2009 at 06:43 AM by Roger Mayne
This post is written for 2 reasons.
1) to reinforce the idea into MY OWN head, so that I stick with it
2) it may help a fellow Warrior build their own business plan, and evaluate where they are
When I say this is my "new" business plan, the truth is, it's also my first. I've been "playing" on the internet for too long now, going nowhere.
I guess I've been online in terms of marketing for about 4 years now. This has all been part time. In the beginning, I dabbled as well as running a reasonably successful offline business, so my online time was never very productive.
I learned as much as I could about every aspect of internet marketing. I can build a site, and have a reasonable understanding of HTML. I have also used basic methods of promotion, i.e. on page SEO techniques. I know you need backlinks, but didn't know the best way of getting them.
Before I came to the Warrior forum, I knew nothing about article marketing, blogging, Wordpress, Squidoo, hub pages, site flipping, social networking, social bookmarking, Twitter or niche marketing.
Over the past 4 years, I have built lots of sites and bought masses of domain names, chasing "the next big thing". None of them worked and I got even more frustrated.
The more frustrated I got, the more I wanted to "make it". I have always been known as having a "grasshopper brain", where I jump from one thing to the next. I can't help it, no matter how much I try.
In recent months, I've made some major decisions.
I've tried site flipping, and although I made some profit, it's not really what I want to do to make my online income.
I've tried Squidoo, but don't really know enough at this stage to make it profitable. Same goes for hub pages, although I do realise their backlinking potential.
I have learnt a hell of a lot about Wordpress (although still learning), and have developed a few WP blogs. I can write (when I have the time), so this appeals to me.
I have various localised sites that I think have the potential to make some decent money between them, so I'm going to concentrate on those, using the skills I believe I have.
I am going to ignore everything else and sell or give away anything that might distract me from that goal. When I have my sites earning a percentage of the income I intend to achieve, I "may" look at other marketing methods. Or, I may simply outsource these aspects.
So, my online efforts will now be concentrated on...
developing Wordpress blogs that relate to the sites I want to promote
social bookmark relevant sites, including my own
build relationships on social networks
use forums to build links and reputation as well as useful contacts
keep honing my SEO skills to improve my rankings
use OFFLINE methods to generate local awareness and traffic
avoid buying into new methods until I know more about the skills I already have
avoid buying ANYTHING unless I can get ROI within 1 month on that product
I will keep this blog up to date with my progress. I hope that this may help other Warrior members fulfil their dreams too.
