In this blog post I’m going to show you how I went from +/-200 sales per month to +/-400 sales per month on one website by only having optimized the site using split testing.

It was November last year (2012) when I finally set myself to start doing split testing. I read about it a lot and planned on doing this for a longer time but never actually took the time to start doing it. Now normally the months November and December as for many other (online) businesses are the best months so I wanted to boost sales these months by increasing the conversion rate using split testing. The year before in 2011 in the months November and December I had 146 and 153 sales and during 2012 the number of sales had grown to around 180 – 220 sales per month.

I started split testing around the 15th of November using Google Experiments and I ended up having 242 sales that month which was already around 20 – 30 sales more then usual, however that difference wasn’t big enough to contribute the increase of sales to the split testing as it was November. However the next month December there was no more doubt that the split testing was working as I had an all-time record month with 390 sales.

Now one could argue this big increase of sales was due to December sales, then normally the sales would plumed in the months January and February. However with my continued effort with split testing the sales stayed over 350 per month and that converted in my new lower threshold number.
