Preface:
1. To become a self made millionaire you have to become a whole new person.
In order to achieve something you’ve never achieved before, you need to become someone you’ve never been before. The qualities you need to develop are qualities from the inside, that will make you a better person.

2. All skills are learnable.
You’re probably only one skill away from doubling your income or from setting yourself on the road to becoming a self made millionaire.

For each “Secret” give yourself a score of out of 10, then prioritise them so you can work on your weakest qualities.

15 Secrets to Becoming a Self Made Millionaires

1. Dream big dreams (‘Back from the future” thinking).
Practice idealisation. Project forward to the time where you have all you want.
What life do you have? What does it look like?

Exercise: create a Dream List.
Write down everything you want, like a child’s Christmas present list.

2. Do what you love to do.
You must love your work, so it doesn’t feel like work. It’s the thing that gives you energy, that motivates you, that enthuses you. Maybe something you were meant to do since birth.

3. Commit to excellence.
Aim to be in top 10% of your industry/field.

4. Develop your unique talents and abilities.
We are genetically structured to do something superbly. Find what you’re good at and develop that skill.

5. See yourself as self employed.
If you’re not self employed… you should still be seeing yourself as self employed. You are responsible for your life, no matter who’s signing your paycheck.

6. Develop a clear sense of direction.
Become goal oriented. You can’t hit a target you can’t see. You must know what you want.
Life is all cause and effect. What you put in, you get out. If you don’t like what you’re getting out now, you must put something different in.

Life works like this:
You must pay the price in full.
You must pay the price in advance.

Exercise:
Write down 10 goals with today’s date.
Then answer this question:
if you could only accomplish one of these 10 goals, but you could accomplish it within the next 24 hours, what goal would have the greatest positive impact on your life?
(could be anything, financial, health, relationship…)

Then write it on the top of next page and create a list of the things you need to do to achieve that.
Then do something every day towards achieving that goal.

7. Refuse to consider the possibility of failure.
We’ve all failed over and over and over. 9 out of 10 things we try fail. It’s fear of failure that holds you back. Not failure itself. Failure is feedback.

8. Dedicate yourself to lifelong learning.
Read everyday in your field. Read books by the most successful people in your field.
Take seminars and courses.

9. Develop a workaholic lifestyle.
You have fun when you’ve made it, not before. Right now you have to work harder, better and smarter than most people.
You start earlier, you work harder, you finish later.
It is the weekly hours over 40 you put in that move you closer to being a millionaire.
Work all the time you’re working. Do not waste time.

10. Get around the right people.
Your reference group, the people with whom you associate the most have a great impact on the person you are.

11. Be prepared to climb from peak to peak.
Life is a rollercoaster, so be prepared for it. There’s up cycles and down cycles.
Successful people focus on the 2 steps forward and protect themselves for the 1 step back (they have cash reserves, etc).

12. Develop resilience and bounce back.
Most things don’t work, so you have to bounce, not break.

Exercise: Mental rehearsal
Mentally prepare for the downfall before it happens, so when it happens you just take it and move on.

Life is a continuum of problems and crises. Problem Problem Problem Problem Crisis.
How you respond to a crisis makes the difference. Superior people look for the solution to every problem. They don’t get angry or upset. The define the problem and look for solutions.

Exercise: Mind storming
Take the top goal you identified earlier and write it down in the form of a question: What are all the things I could do in the next 12 months to…
(be specific). Then write 20 answers to the question.
The first 3 to 5 answers are easy.
The next 3 to 5 are difficult.
The final 10 are extremely difficult!

It is usually the final answer that will change your life…

Once you have the 20 answers take action on it immediately.

13. Become an unshakeable optimist.
Think and talk about what you want, all the time.
Optimists learn more things, they try more things, they persist.

14. Develop the quality of courage and persistence (antidote to fear of failure).
You must have:
- Courage to begin, to launch. (take action with no guarantee)
- Courage to endure, to persist (never give up)

15. Quality of self discipline (What Napoleon Hill called the ‘master key to riches”)
Ability to make yourself do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.
