Having completed the product, have decided to promote it methodically and blog each step here.
  • Filled out the Add Your URL to Google, which would appear to add it to the Google index, though the page is careful to say that may not happen. Does this mean that's a human-moderated process? More likely the first step is a heuristic machine check for, I dunno, child porn or terrorist literature.
  • Certain items need to be copy-and-pasted multiple times for directory listings, tags, and so on. Created a Google document called Landing Page in an Hour and gave it sections for keywords, one-line description, full description (which may be a paragraph or more).
  • While creating the Google assets document I noticed that the description metatag is truncated. I forgot it can only be 160 characters or whatever. A quick web search only made life harder, because every page confidently gives a different maximum: 150, 170, 256, even 158. Google is less than clear on it here (PDF link). For now the question remains unresolved. Time to go to bed.
