Having been involved with the Internet since back in the days when it was still a government only network called the DARPAnet, it is truly amazing to see how far technology has come in 35 years.

Why only 100 years ago we were just seeing the beginning of the automobile era. When you stop and think about the advancements made in such a very short period of time compared to all of history, it makes you wonder sometimes why it took people so long to figure out how things worked.

Without the Internet, we would have advantages and disadvantages so numerous it is unthinkable, but just to name a few:

Advantages (of no Internet):
1. More time spent with our families and friends.
2. Less time worrying about things happening half-way around the world.
3. Less terrorism in the world. (Let's face it, without mass media and a world audience, the torrorists have less incentive).
4. No SPAM.

Disadvantages (of no Internet):

1. Lack of worldwide social networks where you can meet anyone from anywhere and be friends.
2. Lack of the ability to explore the world we live in without leaving the comforts of home.
3. Lack of instant delivery of information to almost every location in the world.
4. Lack of education opportunities for people that never had the money to attend a college or purchase books containing the wealth of information available on the Internet.

So, as you can see, in a nutshell, the Internet has opened our eyes to the world and expanded our horizons of knowledge and information.

If the information and technology age continues to develop at the pace it has in the past 100 years, who knows where humanity will be in another 100 years. Or will humanity even survive?

I don't have the answers, but I know I am having one heck of a time being part of this roller-coaster world. The more people I get to know, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I question. The more I question, the more I learn.

So, where would we be without the Internet? Personally, I don't want to think about it. I love this world and the people that make it so wonderful.
