Hi all,

It's my first post on this forum, but I've been reading other people's discussions here for a while.

I have a question related to conversion.

I created Facebook and Twitter ads linking to the website of a company that was featured on ABC's Shark Tank Last Friday. I ran the ads Friday night through Monday morning. According to the company's twitter updates, they had an insane traffic to their site' during the weekend. I limited my daily budget to $5 dollars per day which gave me 110+ hits, but 0 affiliate sales.

Since I am a rookie, I wanted to get an advise from you guys. Here are my questions:
- Should I continue running my campaign?
- Is 5 dollars per day a sufficient budget for 1 social media ad?
- If I had 114 clicks but 0 sales, am I doing something wrong or the product has a low conversion rate?

Thanks for taking your time to respond to my post.

Re: 0 Conversion Rate

While somewhat depressing to have no sales, 100 clicks is not really enough to judge a campaign by.

I once had a campaign where my first sale was 180 clicks in, then I got 3 sales in the next 20 or so clicks.

I suggest you review your campaign, keywords, targeting etc.. and just make nothing is off before deciding.

What does your landing page look like? Do you have a clear call to action?

EmazingLights | LED Gloves & Rave Lights | Start Gloving Here - Clicks: 244 Sales: 0

What am I doing wrong?

I advertise on Google, Facebook, and Twitter

What are you doing wrong? you are dropping them off at your homepage or shop page for starters. selling is a process. you need to get a customers attention, you have to take their hand and tell them here... this is the product you want to buy today.

You are in essence saying here go browse my store.

I kinda hear what you are saying, and I'm sure you are right, but here is my train of thought:

If I can create an add promoting a product that will be of interest to my target audience and will generate a click, a person who clicked on the link will see not only products that he saw on the banner, but also 100s of related products. After shopping around for a while, he made decide to buy one or two products. If not, cookie will not expire for 60, so if he comes back to the site later, I will still earn a commission.

Am I missing something ?

are you missing something? well you are the one coming here saying you haven't converted anything.. so you are missing sales right?

Can you afford to keep advertising to test out your 60 day theory? or do you need to start producing sales and income today?

Peter,

The 110 clicks you got, was that from Twitter?

Re: 0 Conversion Rate

Just made my first sale.

Summary:
Advertisement Budget: 60 bucks
Clicks: 257
Sale Amount: $62.25
Commission: $3.11
Verdict: not worth it.

i guess if I were selling my own products, I would find a way to make it work, but because I'm just an affiliate receiving a 5% commission, I can't break even that way.

I am going to try other affiliate programs, and play with keywords.

Re: 0 Conversion Rate

I would say that is a pretty good verdict.

Again you need to drive traffic to a specific offer. Look at adwords ( google top of listings and side bar advertising ) do they link you to the home page? or are they more directed to the item?

you need to learn how to develop what is called a "landing page" where your traffic lands and you basically sell them right there. A phrase to keep in mind. "1 page 1 purpose" that page is there to do one thing and one thing only, and that is sell whatever product you are trying to sell.

A home page has a totally different function / purpose. An About Us page has a totally different purpose. and a landing page has its own purpose.

I would suggest doing some research on landing pages. there are some great articles and guides to be found to get you headed in the right direction.

Damn. I never tried to click on those ads on top of the search results, but I just did and I can totally see what you are talking about.. Thanks for the advice.

Should I create long or short landing pages?

There isn't a solid answer to that, its a matter of testing what works best. I personally find it right in the 50 / 50 mark between long and short working. Every product. every flow of traffic. every layout its different. no 2 will ever be the same, and that's why you need to test to find what is right at that given moment with that given traffic at that given time.

I have had products that worked great off of twitter with a short lander.. then over on facebook same product had to use a longer one. and reverse. Sometimes they both were short and other times they both were long. Same with SEO targeting and PPC. THAT is the importance of testing and the "Science" behind CRO

Re: 0 Conversion Rate

peterfor, just a reminder but you can have 1 landing page for each product.

It would take longer to set up though. . . but it would certainly outpull merely sending people to the same old home page for every keyword search.

As for long or short landers... Test 'em. Only way to know.
