How do you check your conversion rate?

I keep hearing people talking about A/B testing and you should always try to raise your conversion rate but I don't know how. Like how do you compare the numbers, visitors or visits with buyers or in a month or such. And how does A/B testing work?

A/B testing is usually done with either various copies of same landing pages or testing totally different copies of landing pages.

Usually the steps start with totally different copies of landing pages, and then when you find the right one, you optimize, some times, it can be making the page more attractive, like you add some authority (certifications, recommendations, and approval from any 3rd party) and see how does it going to make a difference for your sales, like you put it up for a week and you have a data to compare with last week!
Other options can having a video, reducing/increasing contact form options, texting, the options can vary!

There are tools like https://www.optimizely.com or https://vwo.com ...

...or many others....

where you can run multiple copies of your website and test different things.

There are free ways to do the same things but it depends on how much coding ability you have or access to those types of skills or whether you need the assistance of tools.

A/B testing is where you set something up called a "Splitter". This splits traffic between your current page and a new page (often called a treatment page).

The goal is to create a new page that converts more users into paying customers than your current page.

You measure results by doing a little bit of math. For the sake of argument say your original page gets 100 visitors and converts 1 person. That's a 1% conversion rate. Then say your treatment page had 100 visitors and converted 3 people. That's a 3% conversion rate.

This process is done by software most of the time.

I'd highly suggest you hire an expert to do this correctly if you have very little experience with it, as it can be quite technical and the expert will definitely cut your learning curve.

Even though that's a SUPER BRIEF explanation of it, I hope it makes sense.

Well Boss you first have to track all your pages and track conversions with tools like prosper202 and so on, Such tools tell you what landing pages are giving you what sort of ROI and so on.

A/B testing or Split testing is really important to understand your conversion factor. That is true. And you basically do it with analytics programs, like optimizely or others. How it works, is, you either create several variations of a page, i.e. you make slight changes to the page and make a copy or create completely different pages for the same purpose. And then, make them all live. What analytics services does is they divide the traffic between those pages and keep a record of the activities on each of those pages. And they are presented to you using a comparison chart or graph. So, you can better analyse what changes are increasing your conversion rates and what are turning your visitors off. PM me if you want to know more.

There is also the possibility of using Google's goal tracking which is totally free.
