What's the Best Way to Position 2 CTA's "Above the Fold"
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I'm having the homepage of our website redesigned so that it's more efficient at moving our main two target markets into their appropriate funnels.

This is a rough draft of what the redesigned homepage will look like.

My vision is to have both CTA's created in rectangle shapes (or squares) and stack them similar to this...

I know that the best way to improve their effectiveness is to test. However I was looking for suggestions (or maybe some examples) of two CTA's being positioned above-the-fold on a homepage.

Any suggestions or examples you can provide of what I'm looking for are appreciated.

From what I am seeing you are considering "location" and number of "rooms" as separate cta's?

Nope. The idiot that did the design sketch completely disregarded my instructions.

That search box isn't supposed to be there. Never told the guy that I wanted search functionality on that home page.

The two CTA's are:

1. For people to click a button to go to our "cash offer" page, where they enter some brief information about their property, and in-exchange we call them back to discuss giving them an offer on their home.

2. For people to click a button that will take them to a squeeze page that offers a free ebook

So basically a front door back door offer thing. get the details now, or learn more about what we do?

I would almost present it as above. "want cash now? click here." "want to learn more and get a free report on yada yada? click here"

I use 2 and 3 split cta's all the time. yours are not as split as mine are in most cases but it would still be very effective. I tend to display the "primary offer" in the top section ( hero image ish ) headline CTA button to the left and a video to the right. and then below have a columned section of different options including the one from above that can be seen in part above the fold.

to get a visual.. a wordpress theme I use a lot for this stuff is Responsive II by cyberchimp here is the demo: Responsive Mobile | A Responsive Mobile demo site imagine cutting the top section to the top of the nav bar and having the nav bar the blue cta section and the 3 cta sections below. It makes for a great lander/home page and is ver effective.

I hope that all makes sense! LOL

First off, thanks for replying.

The example you provided only has one CTA above-the-fold, though. I'm sure it's effective, however both of our CTA's are equally important at this stage of our business, so I'd really prefer to have both above the fold if at all possible...

After doing some more Google searching, I'm beginning to consider placing the CTA for the ebook in the right sidebar, similar to this.

I think an additional above-the-fold CTA in the sidebar might be able to co-exist with the featured CTA design in the example you provided.

The issue that this could present, however, is that unless I put more "stuff" underneath that CTA in the right sidebar, I'd have a bunch of blank space in that sidebar once you scrolled down beneath-the-fold.

Using that page setup that I showed you I have a few sites that use all 4 CTA's and lower center and lower right are the over all winners. because basically your 2 offers are right in there with one and the same.. the first one lets close the deal now, and the second, send me more info... you don't want the funnel split so obvious so fast.

What I do with that set up in particular the 1 and 3 is I have in the top section a video in your case its we buy homes. We close in cash, in many instances in days. Click for more details. the primary CTA ( the top one ) would then go to another video that gets more into the detail and pushes that close right then and there, and from there, there are 2 options for CTA. Get the Ball rolling or Im dragging my feet.

Back on page one of this in your case you would only have 2 lower CTA's Get the ball rolling or Im dragging my feet. You are covering the 3 aspects of buying at this point. There are lookers.. there are shoppers and there are buyers. The lookers and shoppers are going to click the primary CTA for more info, and the buyers are going to click the lower right ( yes the position is important ) CTA to start the process.

They are on your page.. they are interested. probably right up there with being in the washing machine section at Sears, or on a car lot. you are going to convert - its just a matter of getting closed.

Using this type of funnel leaves no stragglers, and sends the iffy ones in for further preselling to get that conversion. and the ones that know I want to do it, and the ones that want more info, they have their avenue as well. It basically covers everyone.

If you were paying me to set it up, that is what you would get! LOL

So for example, are you saying the video and main CTA here would then lead to a page like this, which leads to this page?

1. So here, are you saying that one of the 2 lower CTA's would take them right to the "closing" page (here), and the other would send them to the same spot that the top/featured CTA would take them, which is here where that second video is?

2. Where would you suggest I put the entry point/CTA for the other important funnel, which is to ask the visitor if they're interested in making more money (or something like that), so that I can get them to the squeeze page for my ebook?

I'm guessing you forgot about this other funnel; if so, would that put me back at 3 lower CTA's, then?

This one you can do 1 of 2 ways. You can do an instant pop email for pdf type thing - or get them to a lander that pushes the PDF

So you are using 3 lower CTA's then the first left is going to be the get more info - the pop up or info only squeeze page. The center will be the Buy my House CTA, and the last will be the opportunity. learn more about doing this for a living what ever!.

The TOP CTA you only want the info seekers and the buyers in this one. and THIS is where the 2nd video would be that reinforces the first video and pushes action. If you are ready to sell your home click CTA #1 if you need more information of what to do and how then CTA #2 "we look forward to speaking with you."

The pdf/ebook isn't for the people that I'm trying to buy a house from; the ebook is for the other target market, where I'm working to build relationships to attract more lenders for our real estate projects.

Other than that, I think I pretty much understand your suggestions. Thanks.

This where the CRO part of me kicks in. say you get 1000 visitors a month to your site. Say you end up buying 3 homes a month. and say you sign up 2 other partners. what about the other 995 people that came to your site? Your not grabbing them.. better yet your not even trying. I can pretty safely assume that if they are going to a site such as yours there is a reason.

YOU are a possible solution to a problem. They need to sell their house, and you can do this quickly. People generally will know in advance they could be in trouble, and need to sell their house.. they are going to look at options. would it not make sense to develop a mailing list of these people and bring them into a funnel that says we are here and we offer a solution to your potential problem?

Once you get outside of the capture an e-mail and sell them some crap Internet Marketing Product... a funnel is usually a process.. it places you in the minds of the people that have gone and looked for solutions. Again you are not buying houses you are providing a solution to their issues. be it foreclosure, Illness, moving etc.. your service is at the very least an option.
