I offer so many FREE things...

fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi guys,

I have a site in the Guitar Lessons niche and I need some guidance.

I offer:
  • viewers a form to request songs for me to make a lesson of
  • a great "free report" to where I give them great advice on learning the guitar
  • And I offer other multiple free beginner packages that I just give away through my list.

They are all free. I also offer my own paid products which are more in depth and I also offer other affiliate products to my list.

Right now, All I do is funnel people to a landing page where they can opt in to get the "free report" i talked about earlier.

I have a separate landing page that funnels the "song requests" into the same list. I use get response - the only downside I've found to get response is that If someone already opted in for the "free report", they have to opt in again for the "song requests" which is not the greatest.

So here's my question. I'd love to build my list, my social media (twitter,Facebook, google plus) and other venues... I've got tons of free content to give in return for a "like my page, follow me on twitter, or add me on google plus". How would you organize this?

Would you offer separate products on separate social medias? ie. to get my "free gift #2" you need to follow me on twitter. To get "free gift #3" you need to like my Facebook page, etc.?

Would you put more emphasis on building a list or social media accounts?

What would you recommend? Thanks guys

J$

Build your list first.

Once you have your list....you can promote whatever you want.

So with that list = free promotion for your social media accounts

BOOM

Thanks Eric,

That's good advice. I guess I'm trying to give good content so they'll stick to reading my emails in terms of giving free stuff away. What would you do different? Thanks!

I know this is the conversion optimization room, and if you want great conversions, give away free stuff.

HOWEVER what you really want is value per customer. You can lure them in with awesome things, but if your free stuff isn't converting into $, then your customers give you no value. Maximize this number.

You need to train your customers and website viewers to not expect so much free stuff. I know you are use to giving away stuff for free and I'm sure you are providing great value and people love you but you need to make money for yourself and if all your "customers" or maybe "fans" is a better word, expect free stuff, you will not be making any money.

Start charging for things. Yes, you may lose some of those "fans" but you will start to grow a list of actual customers who you can provide great value to while they also provide great value to you ($$$$$$) which is why you are in the business. If you are helping/providing value you have a RIGHT to charge for it and you need to start exercising that right.

Hope that helps!

Good stuff Eric! Did you happen to grow up in AZ? I grew up with an Eric Bernard spelled the same way. Just curious. Anyway, that's a good point. I think, like you said, instead of showing them what they can get for free if they subscribe, cut it back and offer 1 thing. If I give anything else away, have them be surprised by it and put a price tag on more products... Sounds great man! I feel like you guys got me back on a better track than before.

I really appreciate it

I'd imagine that's something you could charge for. I know I'd be more interested in learning a specific song i like then those in some of the music books.

What's your freebie? And what does it cover? These lead magnets are so important for conversion but often overlooked.

Thanks Eric!

My freebie is a list of like 50 "top secret" guitar tips. It's actuallly super valuable in terms of the info. It gives them an idea of mindset, motivation what to do, etc. Would you add more to it? I have a few other diagrams I could bundle in free. Or a different product?

Thanks

No sir, I did not grow up in AZ but I hear it's pretty dope there.

Exactly! If you have a course/song/product whatever that you think is valuable but you'd still like to give away for free then set it up in your email autoresponder for it to send out to people AFTER they just purchased a somewhat higher priced product you have. Then they will be like "OH SHIT! Dudes the bomb". Especially since you will 100% lose some customers(fans) who were on your site for all the free stuff once they see you charging for things more often.

Thanks again Eric!

This is good stuff

One more question. I use get response and it's pretty basic. Most people who buy my products are already on my list. With most email list services is it possible to set that up - to where they get onto a different list once they buy a product or they are then eligable for more good free stuff like you were saying? Just curious.

Thanks Eric! Have a good weekend
