Need help with conversions on Dating website
 

Hi there.

I have a website hotdate4u.co.za

The site is growing very rapidly. At the moment we rank no 3 for free online dating. We get tons of traffic and we get almost 50 - 100 sign ups a day.

The problem is we are not converting the sign ups into sales.

We have a free 1 month membership as well as 3 premium membership packages.

I would like some suggestions on how we can get more sales.

We are also looking for ways to monetize the site with affiliate ads.

I would focus less on the affiliate ads and work more on the subscription conversion myself. why add added levels of complexity to a model that has the elements in place to work?

Its your site so you should have the data... when the users sign up for the free 30 days.. how many days are they active? just the first day? on and off for the first week? do they go all the way up to the first month with activity?

This type of information gives you an idea of where you need to focus. If they are one hit wonders ( only using the site right after they sign up ) I might suggest sending a questionnaire to these types of users and find out why they did not come back and use your service.

Did they use it pretty decently for a week and fall off? again a questionnaire to these users. In the case of the above 1 hit wonders and this group I would be looking at your e-mail series as a place to possibly gain some ground. I might shy away from the "SIGN UP NOW" stuff right off the bat and develop a 5 to 7 piece series of e-mails that guides them to better profile writing etc. Basically help them have a better experience with your site.

The 30 days and no conversion crowd... this is the point where you begin to wonder if you should be taking the credit card details on day one, and convert the account into at the very least the base level account after the 30 days automatically.

If this was my site. I would probably offer 2 onboarding solutions. there would be a free option with many of the benefits and features knocked back for a period of 1 week ( a 7 day free trial ), and then maybe a $3.95 7 day trial that is full blow use that converts to the mid level package at the end of 7 days.

Thank you for the advice.

I am also thinking about opening the site to all countries and adding pay pal as a payment option for credit card payments.

Be careful using PayPal for membership on a dating site its not allowed. I did and lost my PayPal account permanently!

Thank you for that warning. I didnt know that.

I also think I should be focusing on converting the subscriptions to sales.

Just a quick question, if I have a free lite membership and other premium memberships, can I still market the site as a free online dating site?

I personally think you should keep it free until you have at least 10,000 real members before charging anything. I did this and by then everyone was happy to pay a small fee which I've increased over the years as the member base grew as did the problems.

At the moment you have just over 700 members but unfortunately some of the 150 female profiles seem fake if you do an image search you find the profile pictures on many sites.
Its hard work keeping scammers and fakes out of dating sites.

You wont get many guys hanging around if they cant meet anyone.
