How to track sales by traffic source I will try to explain my concerns as simple as I can with an example. Lets say we have 3 main traffic sources to our website. Facebook, Organic and AdWords. We make only 1 sale and we go to our affiliate platform to check the stats. We know the page that sent the visitor to the offer, but we don't know where did this visitor come to our site from, in the first place! How can we know if that sale came from a Facebook fun, a typical visitor from free organic SERPs or from our paid AdWords campain? Is there a WP plugin (or something), to add a string at the end of our site's url showing where did he come from before he leave our page? I mean for example... Our initial article URL is http://www.example.com/myarticle/ A visitor clicks on our Facebook post and comes to a page with a URL like: http://www.example.com/myarticle/?facebook Another one comes from a Google ad and the URL of the same article is now: http://www.example.com/myarticle/?adwords So... When we check our affiliate stats, we know how many sales come from each traffic sourse! I hope you understand what I am looking for... Thanks. :) |
RE: How to track sales by traffic source If it's an app, then "mixpanel" would be good. However I'm not quite sure exactly what you want to track. |
Re: How to track sales by traffic source You could use Pretty Link plug-in. You could then set up links for FB, YT, and all other sources, each of which point to the same MyArticle. You can then go to the Pretty Link statistics and see the hits on each link. The links can be obscure or specific like "MyArticle_FB". |
Re: How to track sales by traffic source I do believe their is a set up, through a site service called " Improvely " they track your traffic and you will just need. To add a link, at the end of your link. Before you start it, to know which one is making money and which one isn't working. To cut advertising cost and improve sales. |

That is precisely what Google Analytics is designed to do. It is a marketing analytics application. It can tell you as much or more about where your traffic is coming from than any other app available. It also tracks behavior after users arrive, and can even be used to track users across multiple channels and websites. Google tags every visitor with a unique cookie so they can keep track of where the user goes and what they do. You can enhance this data further by implementing user id tracking in Google Analytics. Your Google Analytics web property can be link to your AdWords account, and to Google Search Console to automatically include details fro organic search and AdWords campaigns. Use the GA Custom Campaign URL builder to track campaigns from 3rd party (non-Google) platforms like Facebook Ads, linkedIn ads, Twitter Ads, etc. Ideally you will want to have your affiliate platform place you GA code snippet on their confirmation page, or setup a postback URL pointing to your Thank You page with your GA code snippet in place. You can then setup Goals in GA to track conversions, source, medium, behavior, and virtually anything else you want to know about your traffic will be possible. |
