FaceBook Ads 0 Conversion Rate
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

So I am new to the whole internet marketing thing. I teach courses on Udemy and generate on average about $8,500 a month (I only get $3000 of that number).

I took one of those courses that regularly does 4k a month and put it on my website in hopes to advertise it on facebook and make similar income on my own teaching platform (teachable.com).

I have two ads running for the course. One to sell the course for $25 and one giving it away entirely free. Neither one of these have converted a single click even though I have over 1000 clicks each.

Here is what the ads looks like:

These are the pages they are taken to in the same order:

https://www.itflee.com/server-2016-s...dministration/

https://www.itflee.com/server-2016-s...stration-free/

I am guessing there must be some glaring issue with either my ad or my landing pages? Can anyone see what I am doing wrong here??

Thanks so much!
Paul

You should be building a list with this FB campaign.
Sending them to a special FB only offer opt in form, and follow up with email including the coupon code.

Oh I see.. So instead of making them check out have them subscribe to my mailing list and email them the free enrollment coupon?

I never had any luck at all with Facebook advertising, even though my advertising was extremely highly targeted. I ended up with lots of likes but less engagement on my page when advertising was turned off. In fact the few thousand I spent seems to have killed my facebook conversion in the long term almost completely. We used to convert hundreds of people per year, and now its less than 5 per year since the advertising.

I would suggest experimenting with other types of advertising.

It looks like some posts were deleted. Anyways, my issue was up until now my CTA button had a broken URL /facepalm.

I fixed it yesterday, but now I need to wait again. We are only running a $5 / day budget so it could take some time for the conversions to come through...

PBScott, what platform do you suggest?

Bing Ads Does really well for me, I suggest you invest a few over there, You'll get success far more earlier than Fb Ads.

Don't forget that Facebook traffic is cold traffic. People who don't know you are not very likely to buy something from you - especially if its something like a service or virtual course.

Plus, your landinge page doesn't include that much information. I mean its only one page without any links to an "About", "Blog" or whatever section. Right now it could as well be a ripoff or something that doesn't help me at all (from a neutral point of view).

These kind of landing pages might work for warm traffic or very simple products, but hardly for cold traffic + courses. Plus, you might wait some time until retargeting kicks in.

Focus on the free offer for now and see whether its generating a few leads at all.

I personally think you're selling the steak... and not the sizzle. You need to sell the sizzle.

With my 22 years in IT and 16 IT certifications, I'm in the demographic you're looking to reach.

The big problem is the copy...

With everything you write.... Ask the following:

"That means?"

The headline tells me I'm getting another IT certification course..... That is steak... no sizzle.

Now, use your headline and ask "That means?"

Getting Microsoft Certified means.... "boost" in my career... more job opportunities.... more income..... a "better" life.

So, a very quick initial rewrite of the headline may be...

Accelerate Your Career, Boost Your Job Opportunities & Make More Money

You want to have a headline like this that will grab their attention...

Now, ask the question "That means?" with your text under your image and your description.

The bottom line is you're not selling an IT course.... You're selling them a "dream" of a "better" life after passing the exams.

You need to sell the sizzle.
Exactly. The copy needs some major tweaks.

OP -
So I am new to the whole internet marketing thing.
I'm assuming you mean Facebook marketing as well.

If that's the case, I recommend purchasing Digital Marketer's course on Social List Building with Facebook Ads.

NOTE: I believe you will have to register as a member to the DM lab to purchase it as a stand alone product. If not, contact customer support for the course. It's cheap but very insightful for your situation. Disregard the 'list building' title. I believe it will be worth your time to go through it for converting clicks. If you get nothing out of it (doubtful) then get a refund.

Further,

Are you split testing your ads and landing pages and tracking your results? If the campaign you mention here isn't converting, change one thing (image, copy, audience etc.) and test it. Rinse and repeat. There's more to this explained in the course I mentioned above.

You must continually test until you are getting a positive ROI. Facebook ads work. If you don't know much about marking with the platform. Learn how with the resource I alluded to.

Best of luck!
Reid

Hi Reid, after you've maximized your conversion rate on a Facebook ad, how long are you finding that it keeps producing before it gets stale? Thanks.

I would definitely use a benefit driven, "What's in it for me", headline. Next, I'd use the ad to build your list. That way you can build a relationship and credibility with your audience. That alone will increase conversion ratio. Big Plus From Using Ad for List Building: You'll have multiple marketing opportunities instead of the single "one and done" you get by trying to sell them straight from the ad.

It might be too technical. If I was looking at it as a novice and looking for training, i would think this is too much for me. I would try and ease the fear of your potential customers or students, and try to come up with something more fun so that your Facebook conversation rate becomes higher.

I think back to when I was starting out online, not knowing what to do and I was so scared to pull the trigger to learn a program, sign up for a class etc. Thinking this is all crap and they are just out to get my money. I think you would convert better just having something more appealing that at the same time eases the fears of people who may be skeptical that this ad will be all about the money. In addition, some folks may also think this ad is far to advanced for them and would not bother clicking through to your site anyway preventing them from a successful conversation.

Capture those emails. Do not convert them to sales right away, have them sign up and then send them to a checkout in your email. That email list will be gold later on. Think about it, you are paying to run the ad, you are paying to have them click, some people may be fully interested but just not ready to put payment info in right now and if they x out of the screen you lost them.
Just add a simple step of capturing an email and you will get a higher ROI over time.

Google Adwords, however make the adds highly targeted, on the types of websites your customers would frequent etc, on the subjects that relate to your types of people.

Also if someone is searching for the courses you are offering, you can have your result come right up there for them on Google.

You will probably lose money at first but then start refining your keyword list, and more importantly your negative keyword list.

People speak a lot about list building, it does work, you should build that list, but I have always taken the approach that the first priority is getting their money immediately. Contacts are a consolation prize, not the goal, profitable cash in hand is the goal.

you have to understand that people in FB are not in the mood of buying. they are in fb to just having fun.

you have to catch their email first. then follow up by email marketing. people usually buy something after 5 follow up emails. so they have to understand first the benefit of your product

use 'fb lead generation / lead ads' instead of 'click to website'. and then you have to integrate fb lead generation to your email marketing platform (mailchaimp/aweber) by using zapier

of course they will not put their email if you dont 'bribe' them with something free and useful.

so you have to make something like free ebook about your business that will give benefit for them, not about promoting your business so they will give their email. sharing first, selling later.

after they put their email in the fb lead generation, then they will receive the ebook in the email. the second email , third and so on will be about product knowledge email...and in the fifth email it will be ' hard selling' email. the email sequence should be set using autoresponder provided by email marketing platform

i suggest you to read about sales funel, lead generation, autoresponder email marketing
