I need your help regarding A/B testing for our website.

Hi there,

I need your help regarding A/B testing.

I only know the basic definition of A/B testing. But to be frank, I do not have any practical experience of it.

Now, I want to start A/B testing on my website because we do have a lot of traffic on our website, but the conversion rate is only around 5%.

Can you please guide me:
  1. Where should I start if I want to optimize one of our top pages?
  2. Which tools would I need to perform this A/B testing?
  3. Which are the points that I should keep in my mind while performing this A/B testing?
Thank you.

where to start is a topic within itself..and it really depends on some pretty basic factors.... IF you are selling product... I would suggest starting at the back end of the process - the thank you page, and moving your way to the actual product page.

Selecting single pages to optimise I would consider where the most gain could come from. You seem to have a page in mind... but thinnk about this for a moment. IF you were to get a 5% gain from that page, is there another page with the same 5% gain where the value of the increase would be greater?

In regards to tools.. there are simply so many tools. Google Analytics has tools to do this, I have over time become a bit more fond of this, The obvious integration of the traffic and testing tools in one place is kinda handy. BUT, there are many other options to be found. Justfind one that is going to do what you want at a price you can afford. You will over time switch from one to the other to the next until you find a perfect fit for you.

A/B testing is about consistancy.. run test all the way through. Run them for consistant periods of time, and consistant traffic sources. The more varied your time and traffic is the less likely your results will hold true.

Hope that Helps!

Success is an ACT not an idea

1. If your site uses Wordpress, try the free Simple Page Tester plugin.
2. For other sites, try the Google Optimize tool (also free).

See both here:
