Optimizing blog posts

Hey all,

Blogs, with high volumes of traffic, are notoriously difficult to optimize. I have completely analyzed all data sources, qual and quant. However, without a complete page redesign to test readability issues etc. I'm running out of ideas to run tests to reduce bounce rates/exit rates. Does anyone have any prior experience in reducing blog bounce/exit rates?

Looking forward to hearing some ideas toward quick wins!

IMO - blogs are so very cliche, stereotypical and obligatory.

Thanks,

Matt

I find that content linking is critical. If the content is about twitter as an example.. and you list links at the bottom or where ever for a facebook and G+ and Instagram articles, there is a disconnect.

Basically you want to match your linking to content that is contextually a match with the content on the current page.

Consider EVERY page as a landing page. a sales funnel will look like this:
  • Link from a advertising source
  • Landing page with offer
  • The offer and pitch

A blog post is no different:
  • Link from a search engine
  • Landing page with content and an offer
  • The offer and pitch

Using a " Landing page " as a model, you want to follow the simple rules... The link bait text and the title and context of the landing page should match. Bounce in both scenarios can be an indication of a disconnect.

To have the end user move from the lander to the next step or the next article, there needs to be a clear Call to action. Links in the side bar just dont count here.

For further information about twitter you may be interested in these other twitter articles I have written. Article 1 article 2 article 3

This would be the easiest changes that could be made. To goto an extreme and do a redesign thinking there is " readability issues " I havenet seen the page, but that sounds like an extreme... pretyy much a blog is justthat a blog... they all layout for the most part the same.
