Is a video more effective?

Is a video on the home page more effective for conversion on a MMO site?

If I plan to have high impact marketing videos does this take away from SEO?

If any body here or elsewhere told you one or the other works better, then they would have told you a big fat whooper!.

The answer is nobody knows. What works for my site will not necessarily work for your site.

Your website visitors will tell you which one they prefer.

To cut a long story short, test 2 versions of your page - one with video vs. one without video.

You shouldn't place 1 video on your homepage without any text as it will dampen the effect of your SEO efforts. And instead of trying to figure out whether videos convert better than text, if I were you, I would build a homepage that is a hybrid of both.

Publish a nice article and add a relevant video to complement the article. Those who the article couldn't convert to customers will be converted after watching the video and vice versa.

Def split test both. Video and images on a page lacking ad copy can take away from SEO so if you want SEO and video it's best to have a long sales page with the video on top and ad copy below. I've noticed credibility indicators such as "seen on" have doubled my conversion rates over night on my video pages. But again a/b split test all pages. Traffic sources also make a big difference.

Video can be effective but may lead to more loading time. So there is no benefit keeping video on homepage but keeping meaningful text will surely help. Try to keep your web page loading time less. Keep your video in some other webpage and be specific with information there.
