Sales Page Advice Requested
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Good Morning,

I am hoping to get some advice on my current sales page and the corresponding steps to get to the paypal checkout. I would love to split test and find out the true answer myself, but I currently do not have enough traffic to do so. My product is a 6 week digital course and I am using a 7 day trial as a hook for the monthly subscription. (I will list the link at the bottom if you would please take a look).

The current steps for a visitor to buy are as follows:
Sales Page >> intermediate page explaining what they are buying again (with paypal button) >> Pay Pal

So here are some stats:
I am averaging 26 users per day (mostly through twitter aimed at my blog posts)
10% of the sales page unique page views move on to the next step to claim their free 7 day trial.
I am utilizing a popup optin on my blog posts as well as an exit popup on my sales page which has resulted in a 2.8% double optin rate.

However, there are no sales. Sad, I know...

I am trying to figure out if I should remove the intermediate page, and go straight from sales page (with a paypal button) to paypal.

Any thoughts? I know the traffic is very low ( I don't really expect much from the site until i'm getting around 200 visitors/day), but what do you think about the 10% (unique page views) that move on to the next step of the purchase, is that a good percentage? seems good to me.

I know that the optin rate can be improved, I'll probably incentivize it shortly.

Whether or not I remove the intermediate page, I was considering changing the "free trial" button on the sales page to a single optin form that took the first name and email, and then when the users submitted it they were forwarded on in the sales process (that way I have captured their email even if they don't purchase). Thoughts? I haven't done it yet because I'm using mailchimp for testing (and they make setting up single optin suck), and intend to go to aweber once traffic picks up.

Heres the link to my salespage: The Business Coach In A Box

So in the end, any advice you can offer that might give me a better chance to make some sales would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any feedback!
Lumien

As a side note, although I don't have any sales under my belt for this product, if you are interested in working some kind of JV/affiliate deal let me know as I'm open to paying good commissions as building my list and getting some money to dump into advertising is currently my goal.

One idea (it was not clear if you are doing this already) :

If they get an email after opt-in to the free course, add a thank you page that has a call to action to purchase the full course. I'd think maybe offer limited time price from that page, "Thanks for signing up to the initial course. While waiting for your login credentials, we'd like to offer you special pricing from this page that is limited (you won't find this anywhere on the main site....blah..blah..blah".

Not sure where or how often you ask for the purchase, but I personally want to ferret that out asap!

thanks for the reply:

Currently, the optin is just for blog updates, they do not get anything (including the free trial) just for opting in.

Just to clarify, I intend on incentivizing but not with the course itself. The free trial requires the user to give their payment info before allowing them access, but they can cancel at any time and I tell them how.

It is a good idea to auto respond with an offer, I intend to, however since the site isn't making any sales (and only has a small amount of traffic) I am using mailchimp's free account and they don't allow you to set up an autoresponder unless you sign up for their service. The intention is to switch over to aweber and then use an autoresponder to attempt to convert my optins.

As for asking for the purchase:

I have a hand full of call to action buttons spaced throughout the sales page (and I also state the price near the bottom of the page), which currently take you to the "intermediate page" which again describes my product and has another CTA button which then takes you to paypal. This is the main concern that I have, am I making my warm/hot leads jump through too many hoops to get to paypal?

Thanks again,

Lumien

Lumien, if I were you I would offer a free sample of your course or some other lead magnet to get the optin.

2nd, Use Ininbox.com for your free autoresponder. They are free without the draconian restrictions of mailchimp and they like internet marketers. InInbox

3rd, start your sales funnel with a less expensive one off priced product directly related to the recurring membership then upsell to it on the back end.

So you are just relying on traffic from the main blog/site with calls to action for sales and opt-in's to free offers? Something like that?

Can you offer a free demo or chapter 1 of the course for the opt-in minus requesting payment? That seems like a pretty strong request (just my opinion) and depending on the segment you are in, the marketplace is likely not accustomed to entering in payment info for a free trial. Perhaps a misread on my part, but it's just my observation --- maybe this is something you should test rather than just plaster everything up there and see what sticks.

Not sure.

I am of the mind that a cleaner landing page, or even a home page with opt-in offers for the trial/demo, supporting or additional info lower down the page or in other sections linked on the main page. I'd also continue with this throughout the opt-in process, adding thank you pages with additional free offers and sales opportunities layered appropriately, delivered at appropriate times. Really hard to say what is best for your situation.

Overall, I'm inclined to say maybe just slow down the sales process. Right now it doesn't seem like a process at all and maybe just too early to sell anything at all. Perhaps analogous to trying to sell aluminum siding by cold calling at dinner time to a person that is renting an apartment --- it's just the wrong setup.

I read this thread in the Offline section this a.m. http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...ease-help.html

Savage4 posted this excellent article on landing pages: The Most Entertaining Guide to Landing Page Optimization You'll Ever Read - Moz

Definitely a good read!
