    Of course, you are right, courtesy goes a long way. And you always hear the old bromide "know, like and trust."

    I think some people overcook the "like" part.

    What people really want is effectiveness. For example, sales trainer Jill Konrath says too many salespeople subordinate themselves by saying things like "Thanks for taking time to meet today." Instead, they should try, "Good to meet with you, Ms. Businessperson. I have some ideas that will help you with [business problem].

    jeeesh -- so many holes in this guy's theory that it's flimsy. Tiny lil sample, correlation doesn't equal causality, etc. etc.
