Writing your first thread is a positive step into this world we lovingly call "home." I am sure you'll learn lots if you stay long enough. Just learn not to hit the overload level and you'll be fine.

The failures are half the fun. In fact, I would recommend you fail faster. Not giant ones. Lots of little failures. You'll learn a ton, grow by leaps and bounds and have lots of laughs.

Hey, that's the name of my next book: "Lots of Little Failures."

The only thing we will hold you accountable for is bad copy and unwillingness to learn from your mistakes.

Other than that put your big boy pants on and as my Tattooed - Chain Smoking - Biker Mother would say - in her groveled black tar voice, once she took a deep drag on an unfiltered Buglar cigarette, "Shut the hell up! Suck it up, Walk it off, Be a man!"

Other than that, keep writing and reading. Never stop! Study the masters and pay attention to the junk mail you receive.

Finally, The Copy Nazi is just that. A sadistic bass tard who knows his shit. Brian is a pretty boy but knows how to use a Chechen Butterfly knife on your copy. Whatever you do please note, Angie is off limits. She will jig ya with her pumps man!

The rest of us are but students.

PS. Welcome Aboard - now get back to work.

Hate to be the asshole in the room, but if you need someone to hold you accountable, what you really need is a job.

That snarky comment out of the way, let me say I appreciate your situation.

I gave someone advice a month or so ago who was in a similar position. Instead of one goal, have 3 goals. 3 diverse projects, all viable.

Spread your risk. Create more opportunity.

Chances are few things will work out. Most of the time it won't be your fault. Put the odds in your favor.

Create multiple "at bats" for yourself.

The current situation you find yourself in is because you put your eggs in one basket. Even people who have full-time jobs can't afford that type of thinking anymore.

The world is way too volatile.

Say yes to a lot of stuff and then figure out how you'll get it all done later.

    Good luck!

Only problem with the noobs is they log in all bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to charge up that gold-paved road of copywriting come what may, then you never hear from them again...

Personally, I always wonder about their progress.(... Or, more likely, what made them bail...)

    It's the scientist in me...

Anyway, welcome from the troll gallery...

Fear of failure has no doubt held me back throughout my life. I've found the best way to continue believing I'm a bright special snowflake is to not contribute. That way I can't be proved wrong. Head trash to be sure.

Thanks Rick, you are one of the people I was most looking forward to getting beat up by. A good first shot. It's a fair point and a sign of some inner weakness on my part. If it's true we are what we think I need to change some thinking.

At this point in time I'll be happy if the road is paved with tin. I'll also be happy to share my awkward fist steps with you...for science.

When you're done licking your wounds, you'll be back.

BTW, I was just out for a swim and I met this guy. Started talking.

Turns out he's one of the top people in his industry. You would probably know his name if I shared it. Think Shark Tank type people.

But what you wouldn't know is he's had several business reversals.

This was one of his throwaway lines: "It's not how high you climb, it's how high you bounce."

It was obvious he was proud of his ability to bounce back.

        Here's your chance.

It sounds like you need some time to grieve a business failure. Fair enough. But don't wait too long to get back in the saddle.

And don't put your "heart and soul" into something before you see it will be successful early on. Release an iPod Nano before you try to sell an iPhone 6. Make sense?

  • Talk is cheap. GET TO WORK!! Lol no but seriously. You can be successful at this. You just have to believe that you can do it and it will happen.

Here is something from left field for you to chew on: One thing I've noticed over the last 30 years of dealing with business owners and entrepreneurs is how they deal with success and failure is closely tied to their relationship with their parents, especially their father.

From what you've shared, you are probably beating yourself up way, way more than you need to.

I'll bet if you told the whole story, which I'm not asking for, but if you told the whole story to some experienced hands here, they would just laugh as they handed you a frosty beer and say, "Wow, is that it? I've had way bigger flops than that!"

Then they would charge your for the beer.

    Kidding.

Back to my psychobabble: The roots of your self-criticism may go deeper than a simple business failure. Let go of the expectations of your parents. I don't care how old you are. People get trapped by that for years and decades. I've seen it hundreds of times.
