What do you think of writing tools?

I recently stumbled upon a great thread on Medium.com, which has a lot of things which every marketer should have. One of the sections was tools for writing. I checked out the tools and some of them were really interesting.

I want to know whether you use some online tools to help you with your writing. Grammarly? Hemingway? Some minimal writer?

Honestly speaking, I created this thread to ask you if you have used Hemingway and what your experience with it are. It has a free version, as well as a paid version and I want to read a few real reviews before I buy it. It seems like a swell app, but I still don't think that programs ar that smart.

    I've personally never used it so I can't give any advice there. I will say, however, that the more you practice your craft of writing, the less you'll need tools to tell you what needs to improve. So just keep writing and be your own best tool.

    I use Microsoft Word... it gets the job done. Never had a desire for anything else, and it's a big step above Notepad. lol

      I've toyed with the paid version of Hemingway. It's nice for catching passive phrasing and grammar issues but I wouldn't use it to write/tweak sales copy. It seems to favor non-fiction/fiction writing so if you doing that kind of writing then it's a nice tool.

      For copywriting, I do use the readability stats in MS Word to help pinpoint the tone and pacing I need in sales copy.

        Anyways, would you say that the tool is good for blog posts/articles on a website? I think that it will help to create informative articles, while using less redundant words (Hemingway himself never really liked adverbs himeslf, hence one of the features in the tool).

      Word works fine for me too. I think nothing helps you more in writing than experience. Some people I know can take a look at an article or mail and immediately identify the writing skill level of the writer.

      There are quite a few options for 'sales letter writing' software out there.

      But while all these sales letter writing software products can step you through the structure of writing an effective sale piece,.......they all fail to do one thing.....

      They can't help you, or teach you how to master the use of the most magical and powerful words and expressions in the English language in your copy.

      In the end, the underlying emotional triggers that grab your prospect's attention and keep their eyes glued to the page, and make them want to buy, comes down to knowing what are the right 'words' you should be using in your copy.

      The 'structure' of a sales letter is one thing, but knowing the 'right' words to use in your copy, is another story altogether

    I use WordPerfect 1.0 jk (though I was surprised to see they still sell WordPerfect)

    I've tried a lot of different ones, and in the end I only use MS Word....occasionally I'll get a second readability "opinion" from https://readability-score.com/ (its free)

    One book that helped me a lot with my writing was Stephen King's On Writing

    Like any other discipline, tools can only take you that far. Most of the tools
    I recommend are in book form rather than a software. Such as Words That
    Sell     by Banyan, which is really a copywriter's thesaurus. Also you may find
    this tool useful in terms of word use:

    It was interesting that at the T&C summit there was a lot of discussion about content quality and one of the tools that repeatedly came up was Grammarly.

    Not that I've tried it but the talk was surrounding ranking in relation to writing to a grade 5 average and the tool can help in this regard.

    I don't know whether that is of interest to you but I though I'd share it here.

    I am using some writing tools. I think these tools are really effective. I use Ginger Crammer Checker tool. It is really helpful to correct any kinds of Grammatical mistakes.
