Hey copywriters, do you like all the research you have to do for writing copy, or would you rather just get down to writing with all the research already done?

I honestly like research, because I get to gain more experience and perspective with different niches that I might not otherwise. There might be days I might not feel like researching, but a great copywriter understands the importance of research and the benefits to their client by doing so.

Related note: writer's block is BS.

It's usually either fear of how the copy will be received or not enough research.

In other words, do the research. Whether you want to or not.

All writers do - even creative writers. They can't create entire worlds out of thin air without finding out more about the people within those worlds.

You want to write? Make friends with research. Period.

For me its not really a matter of liking research over actually writing the copy of vice versa but more of an understanding that they are separate parts of the same job. Anyone that writes his/her own copy and feels comfortable picking one over the other is probably better off outsourcing their copy.

  • Research is the determining factor of whether it will be a hit or whether the prospect feels the offer Is for someone else on a different island.

What's great about doing research is you really get into the mind of your prospect. How they think and feel. How to weave your copy to meet their desires and find out what really keeps them awake at night.

Let's take weight loss for example. You're not only doing research for that particular letter but also doing research for every future weight loss letter you may write.

In depth research is crucial to knowing your market and one of the main factors in creating a good persuasive sales letter.
